General SummaryThe Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for assuring that the manufacturing operation has the tools, fixtures and documentation to efficiently and safely build products within the facility. The position requires attention to details and the ability to identify problems and inefficiencies within the manufacturing process. The mindset must be one of a problem solver with the ability to resolve issues in a timely manner. This position requires deep knowledge of cable assembly, PCB assembly, mechanical assembly, lean manufacturing techniques, product safety, and IPC standards as they relate to Astronics products.Principal Duties and ResponsibilitiesMaintain, development work order routings & operations to support all manufacturing work orders and rework order requirements.Provide maintenance of existing work instructions as well as the development and implementation of new or improved work instructions, manufacturing aids, and processes within the manufacturing dept.Supports external suppliers with respect to outside processing issues and process improvements relative to fabricated parts and assembliesSupport Project Management by participating in the labor quoting process for any new proposals requested by new and existing customers.Interface with Quality and Inventory control for all non-conforming material issues on production hardware.Collaborate with design engineers and review drawings to ensure manufacturability of products, evaluate and propose design changes to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve product quality.Determine the most effective arrangement of machines, materials, and personnel to optimize production efficiency. Identify opportunities for process improvement and cost reduction.Investigate and resolve quality issues, conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for manufacturing issues. Design and implement testing and inspection procedures.Select and procure appropriate tools, equipment, and machinery for manufacturing processes. Work with maintenance and facilities teams to ensure proper functionality and maintenance of manufacturing equipment.Train others in new or revised processes to assure a complete understanding of the new or revised process and ensure it is fully understood.May serve on cross-functional teams to address key operational issues.Strategize and implement Lean Manufacturing initiatives, including 5S, value stream mapping, Kaizen events, waste reduction, and standard work procedures across all production lines.Continuously review processes to identify inefficiencies and develop cost-saving measures while maintaining product quality.Educate and train production staff on Lean principles and practices to cultivate a culture of continuous improvementConduct cost analyses to identify areas where costs can be reduced without compromising product quality.Job SpecificationsBachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.Ten or more years' experience in all phases of production and development of electronics (PWBAs, Harnesses, Cables) & electro-mechanical parts and assemblies, in a controlled environment, with an emphasis on wiring & cable assemblies, interface fixtures, preferably in a high-tech environment.Experience in an environment that builds complex cable and wire harness assemblies is a must along with an understanding of all related processes and proceduresDisclaimer: The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification.
