Job Title: Lead English as a Second Language (ESL) InstructorJob Status: Full-timeJob Summary: Under limited supervision, the Lead English as a Second Language (ESL) Instructor uses intermediate skills obtained through experience and training to lead a group of instructors in the education of adults in which English is not their primary language. Directs the creation of lesson plans designed to teach verbal and written skills needed and observes classroom instructions. Directs day-to-day activities of other instructors using established policies and procedures and sets priorities to ensure task completion. Resolves escalated issues and problems and refers new or unusual issues to a higher level. Routine contact with internal and external customers is required to obtain, clarify or provide facts and information.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Review and provide feedback regarding instructors lesson plansCreate and execute daily lesson plans based on textbook curriculum as neededAssist supervisor with classroom observations and skill development for other instructorsPlan and provide supplemental learning materials to demonstrate concepts in curriculum based on students needsCoordinate and administer assessments and evaluations adhering to the Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System (CASAS) standardsConduct and organize student intake process at the start of each semesterEnsure timely data collection, create reports and answer all data/information requests with staff assistanceManage routine administrative functions of the classroom including recording daily attendance, enforcing attendance policy, collecting assignments and contacting absent students and encouraging their return to classCounsel students on attendance and other class related concernsHold regular office hours to be available for student questions and assistanceMaintain student waiting listPlan and organize special presentations and events for studentsAssist in organizing and conducting professional development workshops and training sessions for instructorsConduct team meetings with ESL instructors on a regular basisOversee the ordering of materials and supplies within an assigned budgetAttend partner and collaboration meetings as neededParticipate in community outreach activities and awareness campaigns to increase recognition and participation in services offeredWork with supervisor to determine volunteer placement and maintenanceMaintain currency in ESL education techniques targeted toward adult learnersMay teach various program classes as neededMay provide oversight for peersOperate standard office equipment and use required software applicationsPerform other duties and responsibilities as assignedKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:Knowledge of:* Principles, methods and techniques of adult learning* Individual and group behaviorSkill in:Operating standard office equipment and using required software applications for program area and other applications, including Microsoft OfficeStrong oral and written communication skillsDesign and delivery of effective lesson plans targeted to adult learnersAbility to:Organize and develop instructional material and present information and material in an interesting and challenging mannerPlan and evaluate curriculumOrganize and maintain records and appropriate documentationEvaluate individual and/or group instructional needsCommunicate sufficiently to teach adultsMaintain proficiency in subject matter taughtPartner with other functional areas to accomplish objectivesIncite enthusiasm and influence, motivate and persuade others to achieve desired outcomesSpeak and write in EnglishInterpret, speak and write in Arabic/Spanish or language of predominant service population is preferredEducational/Previous Experience Requirements:Minimum Degree Required:Bachelors degreeRequired Disciplines:Education (preferred), Business, Finance or related field~and~* At least one year of teaching experience* Any equivalent combination of experience, education and/or training approved by Human ResourcesLicenses/Certifications:* Licenses/Certifications Required at Date of Hire:* ESL certification preferredWorking Conditions:Hours: Normal business hours, some additional hours may be requiredTravel Required: None generally requiredWorking Environment: Climate controlled office
