TITLE: MechanicEMPLOYMENT TERMS: Twelve (12) MonthsSALARY CLASSIFICATION: Classified SalaryGENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES: To provide skilled support services to ensure the safe and efficient operation of school district vehicles.PRINCIPAL DUTIES:TECHNICAL - MECHANICRepairs and maintains vehiclesMaintains vehicle repair and maintenance recordsPerforms routine and preventive vehicle maintenanceMaintains tools, parts and equipment inventoryNotifies the supervisor of all unusual problems and concerns affecting the transportation operationParticipates in various training sessions to upgrade skillsPerforms other related tasks as assignedBUS DRIVING Serves as a substitute bus driverMaintains a clean and safe transportation facilityObeys all traffic laws, observes all mandatory safety regulations for school busesEnforces all bus regulations set forth by the district and stateInspects bus twice daily before each operation for mechanical defectsNotifies proper authority immediately in case of mechanical failure or tardinessTransports and discharges authorized students only, and only at authorized stopsReports all accidents and completes required reportsParticipate in student safety trainingReports undisciplined behavior to appropriate staffAssures that students follow safety rules when boarding and disembarking busCollects student personal items left on the bus; returns to appropriate staff member(s)Drives only on assigned bus routes insuring timely pickup and discharge of studentsPrepares reports as requiredKeeps assigned bus cleanPerforms other related tasks as assignedCERTIFICATION: Arizona Fingerprint Clearance CardHIGH RISK OCCUPATIONAL CONDITION: Works with hazardous materials and with large vehicles; works in confined spaces.SKILLS REQUIRED:Ability to pass annual physicalAbility to pass annual drug testSuccessful completion of first aid trainingSuccessful completion of road testPrior bus driving experience desirableDemonstrated ability to repair vehiclesPreventive maintenance; proper repair procedures, for vehicles to ensure the safety of vehicle users, proper use and maintenance of equipmentKNOWLEDGE REQUIRED: Extensive knowledge of gasoline/diesel engines, diagnostic equipment and public vehicle regulations.QUALIFICATIONS:EDUCATION: High School diploma or equivalentEXPERIENCE: More than three years experienceSUPERVISION: Must use own initiative and judgmentRESPONSIBILITY: Responsible for valuable equipment and toolsLICENSE: Valid Arizona Commercial Drivers LicensePHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:COMMITMENT AND DEPENDABILITY: Willingness to be an integral member of a successful teamDedication to provide the highest level of serviceAdherence to policies and proceduresPOSITION EXPECTATIONS:TIME MANAGEMENT: Two to twelve weeks advanced planningSTRESS MANAGEMENT: High stress positionPUBLIC CONTACT: Interact primarily with other employeesEVALUATION PROCEDURE: In accordance with provisions specified in district board policySUPERVISOR: Transportation SupervisorSUPERVISION: None
