This is an opportunity to join a collaborative technology team where database expertise directly impacts application performance and business growth.Role SummaryThe Intersect Group is seeking an experienced Senior Database Administrator to own the administration, performance, availability, and ongoing improvement of Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL environments. This position combines traditional database administration with database development, performance engineering, automation, and technical leadership.You will manage production database environments, lead complex performance tuning and troubleshooting efforts, and support high availability and disaster recovery strategies. The role will also design and optimize database code, support ETL and reporting solutions, automate operational processes, and partner with business and technology teams on evolving application requirements. You will serve as a senior technical resource while helping mentor other database professionals and establish database standards and best practices.Key ResponsibilitiesAdminister and support Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL environments, including security, access, backup, recovery, patching, upgrades, and capacity planningManage high availability and disaster recovery solutions including Always On Availability Groups, log shipping, PostgreSQL streaming replication, and failover strategiesLead database performance tuning using execution plans, indexing, statistics, wait analysis, query optimization, Query Store, DMVs, EXPLAIN ANALYZE, and related diagnostic toolsTroubleshoot production database performance, integrity, replication, connectivity, and security issues while performing root cause analysis to prevent recurring problemsDesign, develop, review, and optimize stored procedures, functions, views, triggers, tables, indexes, partitions, constraints, and other database componentsDevelop, deploy, and support SSIS packages, SQL Agent jobs, SSRS reports, and automated operational processesPartner with technical and business stakeholders to translate requirements and change requests into reliable and scalable database solutionsMentor database administrators and developers while establishing standards for database development, performance, reliability, and operational supportKey Requirements5 or more years of hands on database administration and development experience across both Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL environmentsAdvanced experience with database performance tuning including execution plans, query optimization, indexing, statistics, blocking, deadlocks, and wait analysisStrong production troubleshooting experience involving database performance, integrity, replication, connectivity, security, backup, and recoveryHands on experience implementing and supporting high availability and disaster recovery solutions for SQL Server and PostgreSQLExperience developing, deploying, and troubleshooting SSIS packages and designing and maintaining SSRS reportsExperience automating database and operational tasks using PowerShell, T SQL, Python, Bash, or similar scripting technologiesExperience with Git or GitHub, source control practices, and the software development lifecycleStrong communication, prioritization, and problem solving skills with the ability to mentor team members and communicate effectively with both technical and nontechnical stakeholdersPreferred QualificationsBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experienceMicrosoft Azure Database Administrator, AWS Database, PostgreSQL, or comparable database certificationsExperience with SQL Server 2019 or newer, including database migrations and version upgradesExperience with cloud database technologies including AWS RDS, Aurora, or SQL Server on EC2Experience with database management and monitoring tools such as Redgate or IderaFamiliarity with Jira, C#, or other technologies commonly used within application development environmentsWorking ConditionsPrimarily office based work involving extended periods working at a computerParticipation in a weekly on call rotation supporting SQL Server and PostgreSQL incidents, including occasional after hours and weekend responseApply TodayIf you are an experienced database professional with strong SQL Server and PostgreSQL expertise who enjoys solving complex performance challenges, improving database reliability, and taking ownership of critical production environments, The Intersect Group wants to hear from you.
