Job Summary The Sandblaster is responsible for operating abrasive blasting equipment to prepare steel surfaces for painting and coating. This role focuses on removing scale, paint, grease, rust, and other contaminants to ensure proper surface profile and adhesion. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, detail-oriented, and capable of working in a fast-paced industrial environment. Key Responsibilities Work under the Shop Supervisor and collaborate with the team. Operate and maintain the shotblasting machine safely and efficiently. Prepare steel surfaces for coating by abrasive blasting to remove rust, scale, paint, grease, and other contaminants so coatings properly adhere and meet quality standards. Operate and support sandblast equipment and jobsite setup (abrasive loading, masking/protection, cleaning/hand sanding, inspections, and material handling) to deliver consistent, defect-free surface prep for painting. Inspect materials before and after processing for accuracy and quality. Use proper rigging techniques to safely move materials when required. Perform machine maintenance and basic troubleshooting. Use basic math skills to measure and calculate material dimensions. Maintain a safe and organized work environment. Supervisory Duties This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but requires teamwork and communication to coordinate tasks efficiently.
