Survey CAD Technician
CAD Technician (Survey) - Charleston, SC
Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering, LLC (ICE) is hiring a Survey CAD Technician to join our team to support various transportation projects across the Southeast. This is the perfect position for someone pursuing their Survey license. The Survey CAD Technician will work directly under the guidance of the Director of Survey in the Charleston, SC office. Light travel to visit clients in the Southeast will be required.
Position Responsibilities
Create technical drawings and plans for a variety of infrastructure projects.
Perform earthwork volume calculations, know basic sources of measurement errors, and understand plans and specifications.
Search survey records and land titles to obtain information about property boundaries and areas to be surveyed.
Prepare stakeout notes and point files, digital terrain models and contouring, prepare plans for a variety of construction projects.
Works with other engineering disciplines and professionals in the coordination of the project under the direction of a senior engineer/designer.
Performs field work as directed by a PE.
Assists with engineering/drafting duties on projects of various complexity.
Collecting data and gathering information to support design decisions.
Assists in basic interpretation and verifying compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards and practices.
Constructs models to identify project specifications and meet related needs by performing routing aspects of engineering assignments.
Performs other duties as assigned by the senior engineering staff.
Other related duties may be assigned as appropriate.
Position Requirements
Associate's Degree in Land Surveying, Civil Engineering or CAD Drafting desired.
1-5 years of civil engineering experience using a drafting program desired.
Survey experience preferred.
Experience working with SC state and county infrastructure improvement projects desired.
Knowledge using AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite; knowledge of MicroStation Inroads/Geopak and OpenRoads a plus.
Knowledge in use of any land surveying field equipment is a plus.
Ability to read and interpret construction plans for generating field layout data.
Strong communication skills are expected, both oral and written.
A valid Driver’s License is required with a safe driving record and must complete a pre-employment screening.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Physical and Environmental Requirements
This position predominantly involves up to 8 hours per day at a computer workstation, with occasional standing and walking. The employee may occasionally lift lightweight office supplies and materials, typically not exceeding 20 pounds. The office environment is indoors, characterized by controlled temperatures and minimal exposure to adverse conditions. Employees must have the ability to visually discern and differentiate details and colors of objects, and proficiency in recognizing sound, tone, and pitch. Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary. The role demands adaptability to interruptions and changes in workflow, as well as the capacity to sit for extended periods. The role involves moderate physical activity such as walking, standing, bending, and climbing stairs or ladders. Employees may occasionally lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds. It is essential for employees to navigate construction sites skillfully and conduct thorough inspections of materials and structures. Employees must be capable of working in varied environmental conditions, including hot, cold, and noisy settings, and be able to stand and walk during site visits. Additionally, working on construction projects may involve night work and weekend work depending on the project scope and may include working in conditions with active traffic.
Expected Hours of Work
The ICE offices are open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, allowing an unpaid hour for lunch daily. Work schedules may vary according to the project schedule. This is an onsite position reporting to the ICE office 5 days a week.
