Development Director
DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Development Director supports the work of the YMCA of Southern Arizona, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening communities. Working closely with the President & CEO, this position is responsible for the success and management of various philanthropic programs and activities including but not limited to individual/corporate giving, major gifts, annual campaign, events, planned giving, donor cultivation and grants for the YMCA of Southern Arizona. Assumes a leadership role in all fundraising activities and implements projects as assigned. Excellent interpersonal skills are required to partner with volunteers, community organizations, and branch leadership to ensure fundraising goals are met for the organization. In addition, this position helps educate, motivate, and inspire YMCA of Southern Arizona staff and volunteers in implementing best practices while creating a true culture of philanthropy.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF A DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR:
Provides strategic direction for the organization's overall fundraising goals and implementation plans in collaboration with the CEO and leadership team to develop annual budget and revenue targets
Implements the Association's strategic developmental goals and provides leadership to the YMCA Annual Campaign, grant writing and management, program support fundraising, and development communications
Explores opportunities to diversify and increase philanthropic revenue for individual donors, smaller-level donors, online donors, etc., as well as other appropriate sources
Develops and drives a comprehensive annual work plan that utilizes metrics for success in cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major donors
Collaborates with the CEO to solicit five and six-figure annual and planned gifts through face-to-face meeting with donors and prospects
Builds and manages a portfolio of approximately 200 donors
Maximizes relationships with current donors to build a foundation for sustainability and donor retention
Develops a planned giving strategy, including identifying prospects, creating engagement opportunities, and leading discussions with donors about how to fulfill their legacy through a planned gift to the YMCA
Champions a fund development culture throughout the organization
Oversees fundraising practices, procedures, and systems, including data management, donation tracking, gift and donor recognition, gift processing/acknowledgement, and reporting
Monitors all revenue and expenses related to all fundraising activities, including Annual Campaign, events, and Planned Giving programs
Represents the organization to the community and through professional functions as appropriate
Identifies key community and YMCA member contacts for donor cultivation and stewardship
Implements a meaningful year-round stewardship plan for annual, grant, and major gift donors
Ensures all donor and prospect communications are brand compliant and have proper balance of Y branding and development voice
Adheres to all YMCA of Southern Arizona policies and procedures.
Is flexible in traveling to multiple sites around the greater Tucson area.

REQUIREMENTS OF A DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR:
Bachelor's Degree required
YMCA Organizational Leader certification, CFRE preferred
Four (4) or more years of professional experience with a background in fundraising in the YMCA or another nonprofit organization
Two (2) or more years of experience in foundation and government grant writing for a nonprofit organization
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong analytical skills, with the capacity to self-motivate and work independently
Must have excellent computer skills related to the use of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) as well as online database platforms
Professional demeanor, positive attitude, and the ability to work well with community, staff, and volunteers
Must be highly organized and possess the ability to work with confidential matters
Ability to travel throughout Pima County for donor and prospective donor visits, funding presentations, and YMCA meetings
Available to work an occasional evening or weekend
Completion of assigned online training within seven days of hire.
Previous experience with diverse populations and/or the ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
