Payroll Officer

Enumclaw School District is seeking a detail and service oriented payroll professional to serve on the Business Office’s team of two payroll officers. This position reports to the Director of Business and Fiscal Supervisor, and works in collaboration with the Human Relations team. The Payroll Officer is responsible for accurately preparing and entering the district’s monthly payroll and payroll related documents. This position requires knowledge in the areas of S-275, budgeting, retirement and benefits, classified and certificated staffing, and other payroll related duties. Essential Functions & Responsibilities: Payroll Process monthly payroll for Enumclaw School District employees in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, contract requirements, and district policies. Maintain and update employee payroll records including rates of pay, new enrollments, deductions, direct deposits, authorizations, retirement and benefit data. Ensure timesheets, absentee records, and other on-going input for payroll are collected, verified, and posted timely and accurately. Perform special payroll processing activities such as retroactive pay increases, fiscal year start-up, contractual changes, and end of year processing. Reporting & Compliance Assist with reporting requirements for the Internal Revenue Service, Social Security Administration, Washington Department of Labor and Industries, Puget Sound Worker’s Compensation Trust, Department of Retirement Systems, and other agencies. Process documentation to maintain compliance with child support agencies, Internal Revenue Service, and district sources regarding payroll wage garnishments and levies. Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for state and government agencies as required by law. Provide a variety of required internal and external reports to the Business Office. Analysis & Support Perform regular payroll audits to ensure accuracy and completeness. Review and resolve payroll discrepancies and issues in a timely manner. Research and analyze district and peer payroll records for bargaining and budgeting purposes. Collaboration & Customer-Focused Support Support district staff by serving as a point of contact for employee payroll needs while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism. Communicate clearly and regularly with district employees regarding payroll policies and inquiries. Collaborate with the Human Relations and Business Office team to ensure alignment and accuracy. Professional Growth Maintain knowledge of current payroll regulations, as well as tax and benefit requirements. Seek opportunities to learn and grow in the areas of payroll and related functions. Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Business Office. Qualifications: High school graduate with some post high school coursework in accounting, bookkeeping, and data entry and/or degree preferred. Must have a minimum of two years of experience in an automated payroll system. Experience in Skyward Qmlativ/WESPAC, Aesop/Frontline or other main-frame and relational database systems preferred. Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite and Google Workspace. Demonstrated ability to learn specific rules, laws, regulations, contract language and policies quickly and apply them to a variety of transactions without immediate supervision. Demonstrated ability to work at a fast pace and maintain accuracy including compiling data and completing records and reports, and perform accurate mathematical computations. Must possess excellent customer service skills and demonstrated ability to work in a team environment. Ability to work under pressure and prioritize multiple deadlines in a busy office. Ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written directions. Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, contracts, and regulations. Must be able to meet the staff and public in a tactful and courteous manner when responding to questions and possess effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work. Must maintain confidentiality. Ability to work effectively independently and collaboratively as part of the Business Office team.
