Structural Project Engineer

SLATE Design Group is a growing structural engineering consulting firm based in Nashville serving commercial, industrial, federal, and institutional clients across 30+ states. We're looking for a motivated, recently licensed (or PE eligible) Project Engineer to join our team and grow with us.This isn't a production-only role. You'll manage projects from kickoff to closeout, coordinate directly with architects and contractors, lead junior design team members, and work alongside the Principal Engineer across a wide range of project types — from commercial tenant improvements and multifamily wood-frame buildings to industrial facilities and federal projects. You'll have real ownership of your work from day one, with a clear path toward a senior leadership role as the firm continues to scale.What You'll Do- Manage structural engineering projects from proposal through construction administration, owning timelines, scopes, and deliverables- Lead and mentor junior design team members, reviewing their work and guiding their development- Meet with clients, architects, and contractors — you'll be the primary SLATE point of contact on your projects- Perform structural analysis and design for wood, steel, cold-formed steel, and concrete foundation systems- Develop construction documents in Revit and produce calculations using RISA Suite and other design tools- Conduct site observations and prepare field reports- Review shop drawings and contractor submittalsWhat We're Looking For- B.S. in Civil/Structural Engineering (M.S. preferred but not required)- PE license obtained or eligible (active or reciprocity-eligible in Tennessee)- 4–5 years of structural design experience post-graduation- Strong proficiency in Revit and RISA Suite (RISA-3D, RISA Floor, RISA Foundation)- Hands-on design experience across wood, structural steel, cold-formed steel, and concrete foundations- Familiarity with IBC, ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC, NDS, and AISI standards- Clear communicator who can run a client meeting, present findings, and engage confidently with architects, contractors, and owners- Experience or strong interest in mentoring junior engineers and reviewing their deliverables- Self-starter mentality — someone who takes initiative and wants to build something, not just clock inWhat We Offer- 100% employer-paid health insurance- Unlimited PTO- SE Exam sponsorship and study support- Annual conference attendance (NCSEA, , or equivalent)- Hybrid work setup with flexibility built into the role- Direct mentorship and collaboration with Principal Engineer- Exposure to a diverse project portfolio across multiple states and sectors- A leadership track — not a ceiling.
