Job DetailsDescriptionESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:General Accounting & ClosePrepare and post monthly journal entries, including accruals and deferrals related to payroll, benefits, subcontractors, fuel, supplies, and equipment expensesAssist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes in a multi-location, service-based environmentEnsure transactions are recorded accurately and in accordance with GAAPBalance Sheet ReconciliationsPrepare and maintain monthly balance sheet reconciliations, including:Payroll and payroll-related liabilitiesAccrued expenses and prepaid costsVendor payables and clearing accountsInvestigate reconciling items and partner with operations and payroll teams to resolve discrepanciesMaintain audit-ready documentation for assigned accountsAccruals, Labor & Job-Related AccountingCalculate and record accruals for labor-intensive costs such as:Hourly wages, overtime, and benefitsLandscaping crews, janitorial staff, and field supervisorsContracted services and recurring vendor expensesSupport expense recognition for ongoing service contracts and seasonal landscaping activitiesMonitor prepaid items such as insurance, uniforms, equipment leases, and maintenance contractsFinancial Reporting & Operational SupportAssist in preparing internal financial statements and management reportsProvide explanations for balance sheet and expense variances, particularly those tied to labor, fleet, and field operationsSupport job costing and operational analysis by ensuring accurate expense capture at the location or contract levelProcess Improvement & ControlsIdentify opportunities to improve close efficiency, reconciliation processes, and labor-related accounting workflowsSupport internal controls over payroll, vendor expenses, and recurring service contractsParticipate in accounting system enhancements or integrations with payroll and time-tracking systemsJob RequirementsEducation & ExperienceBachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required2–3 years of accounting experience in a service-based, labor-intensive organizationHands-on experience with balance sheet reconciliations, accrual accounting, and monthly closePreferred SkillsTechnical SkillsStrong understanding of GAAP and accrual-based accountingAdvanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, formulas)Experience with ERP or accounting systems commonly used in commercial services environments (e.g., NetSuite, Sage, Viewpoint, Oracle, SAP, or similar)Core CompetenciesDetail-oriented with strong organizational skillsComfortable working with payroll- and operations-driven dataAbility to manage multiple deadlines in a recurring close cycleEffective communicator with both finance and field-based operational teamsPreferred QualificationsExperience in janitorial, landscaping, facilities management, or other commercial services industriesExposure to contract-based revenue modelsExperience supporting audits or internal control initiativesProgress toward CPA or other professional accounting certificationPhysical RequirementsMust be able to remain in a stationary position for long periods of time. Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery such as a calculator, copy machine and computer printer. Ability to lift objects up to 20lbs. Ability to drive a vehicle.
