Cloud Database Engineer 📍 Location: Miami, Florida, United States (Remote | Hybrid)🏢 Industry: Restaurants💼 Work Setting: HybridAre you passionate about designing and managing cloud-based database platforms, optimizing performance, and ensuring secure, highly available data environments that support enterprise-scale applications?We are seeking an experienced Cloud Database Engineer to administer, optimize, and evolve cloud database platforms across modern cloud environments. In this role, you will be responsible for database provisioning, performance tuning, security, high availability, disaster recovery, and infrastructure automation. You will work closely with application development, architecture, and cloud engineering teams to deliver scalable, secure, and resilient database solutions that support critical business operations.Key ResponsibilitiesCloud Database AdministrationProvision, configure, manage, and maintain cloud-hosted relational and non-relational database platforms.Ensure database environments are scalable, secure, highly available, and aligned with organizational standards.Support database lifecycle management, including deployments, upgrades, patching, and maintenance activities.Collaborate with engineering teams to support database requirements for new and existing applications.High Availability & Disaster RecoveryDesign, implement, and maintain high-availability and disaster recovery (HA/DR) solutions for production database environments.Develop and execute backup, restoration, failover, and recovery procedures.Conduct regular disaster recovery testing and validate recovery objectives.Ensure business continuity requirements are met through resilient database architectures.Performance OptimizationMonitor database performance and proactively identify bottlenecks.Perform query tuning, index optimization, and workload analysis to enhance efficiency and responsiveness.Analyze system resource utilization and recommend capacity improvements.Implement performance monitoring and alerting mechanisms to maintain platform stability.Database Security & ComplianceEnforce database security standards, policies, and governance controls.Implement encryption, access controls, authentication mechanisms, and audit logging.Ensure compliance with organizational security requirements and industry best practices.Conduct security reviews and support vulnerability remediation initiatives.Infrastructure Automation & Cloud EngineeringUtilize Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices to provision and manage database infrastructure.Develop and maintain automated deployment, configuration, and operational processes.Collaborate with cloud engineering teams to improve platform reliability and operational efficiency.Support database migration, modernization, and cloud optimization initiatives.Architecture & CollaborationPartner with application development, architecture, and infrastructure teams on database design and implementation.Provide recommendations on schema design, database optimization, capacity planning, and migration strategies.Participate in architecture reviews and technology evaluations.Support enterprise data initiatives and platform modernization efforts.Documentation & Operational ExcellenceCreate and maintain operational runbooks, technical documentation, standards, and procedures.Support change management processes and ensure accurate documentation of database environments.Promote best practices related to database administration, security, and performance management.Mentor team members and share knowledge across infrastructure and engineering teams.Innovation & Continuous ImprovementEvaluate emerging database technologies, cloud services, and automation tools.Recommend improvements that enhance performance, scalability, reliability, and operational efficiency.Explore advanced analytics, AI-driven monitoring, and intelligent optimization opportunities for database platforms.Drive continuous improvement initiatives across database operations and cloud infrastructure.Required QualificationsEducationBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.Experience5+ years of database administration experience in enterprise environments.8+ years of systems administration or infrastructure experience.3+ years of hands-on experience managing Microsoft SQL Server environments.3+ years of experience designing, implementing, and testing high-availability and disaster recovery configurations.3+ years of experience using Infrastructure as Code tools to provision and manage cloud environments.Experience supporting large-scale production database systems within cloud-first environments.Technical SkillsDatabase
