Software Engineer, Conversion

Team We are the Conversion Engineering team at Upstart, responsible for optimizing how borrowers move through the application journey and impacting conversion rates and revenue.ImpactDeliver critical user-facing features that improve loan application and rate check experiences, directly driving improvements in conversion and funding form submission metrics.Maintain full-stack web applications through monitoring of key system metrics such as latency and error rates at scale.Help define and build the next-generation platform funding form that supports multiple products, contributing to architectural direction and long-term scalability.Strengthen engineering excellence by improving system performance, reliability, and on-call health for the features you build and own.Minimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Mathematics, or a related field (or equivalent) plus at least 3 years of experience.Experience delivering end-to-end features across frontend and backend systems, including APIs and microservices.Strong frontend development experience building customer-facing web applications with a focus on performance, usability, and experimentation.Experience working in cross‑functional environments with Product, Design, and other engineering teams.Preferred QualificationsExperience improving conversion funnels or other high‑scale, metrics‑driven user journeys through experimentation such as A/B testing or personalization.Experience operating in a microservices‑based architecture.Experience in fintech or other highly regulated, high‑availability environments.Location This role is available remotely (U.S.) and requires working on East/West coast time zones.Time Zone Requirements The team operates on the East and West coast time zones.Travel Requirements The majority of work can be accomplished remotely, but employees are encouraged to attend in‑person collaboration sessions once or twice per quarter for 2–4 consecutive days.Compensation Base salary is expected to be within $142,000—$196,600 USD, with additional bonuses, equity, and benefits.Benefits At Upstart, our benefits support health, financial well‑being, family, and personal growth.
