Learn More About Shoreline College AND Video Tour Our Campus!English instructors within the Humanities program teach college-level transfer courses to transfer students as well as vocational students. They also contribute to the department's efforts to improve student retention and success.In addition to teaching, this position involves approximately 4.5 hours/week of non-instructional duties, with a focus on contributing to departmental projects and supporting associate faculty. Such duties may include participating in department and division meetings; contributing to departmental curricular revisions and outcomes assessment; making recommendations and prioritizing ways the department can support associate faculty; helping lead cross-campus discussions and data-gathering efforts to support the work of teaching composition; and other duties as assigned. Required Education & Experience:* Master's degree in English, Composition Studies, Rhetoric, Literature, or Creative Writing* Teaching experience in a higher education setting (e.g. colleges, universities, etc.)Knowledge of:Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, SharePoint, Outlook and TeamsCurrent applicable developments, research and trends in the fieldLearning management systems and other appropriate instructional technologies (ex. ctcLink, Canvas, Starfish)English/Composition pedagogy at a wide range of levelsSkill in:Conveying excitement and enthusiasm in teaching English/CompositionFostering a climate of belonging through awareness and responsivenessTeaching and developing coursework for in-person and online environmentsEffective oral/written communication with individuals at all levels inside and outside the CollegeAdapting to a variety of teaching situations with students from diverse backgrounds/abilitiesDeveloping/modifying curriculum both collaboratively and independentlyImplementing inclusive pedagogy and evidence-based teaching methodsWorking and interacting effectively with colleagues, staff, students, administrators and others of various cultural and socio-economic backgroundsWillingness to teach in more than one area of the program curriculumPhysical Work Environment:The College offers both in-person and online services, with the option of some assignments to be completed in an online environment based on program or area needs. For remote (online) instruction, faculty will need to provide their own workspace and internet access, noting the College will provide technical equipment and support for online work needs. For on-campus in-person instruction, work is usually performed in a classroom space that requires standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time.
