Plus, you'll have opportunities to share your skills and knowledge by participating in clinical trials and research in conjunction with leading organizations such as the Washington University School Of Medicine.Preferred QualificationsRole PurposeUnder the direction of the PA supervisor and Director of Surgical Pathology, this role examines, describes, and sections biopsies and small, simple, uncomplicated resection specimens, requiring independent medical judgment with indirect supervision. This role will prepare frozen section tissue and slides for rapid diagnosis; performs general lab functions, technologist activities and quality assurance; maintains laboratory equipment, supplies and records; acts as a technical resource for accessioners, students, residents and other trainees; and supports compliance activities.ResponsibilitiesSpecimen Handling & Grossing: Independently examine, dissect, and section biopsies and uncomplicated resection specimens; perform gross dissection, dictate findings, submit for histology, photograph as needed, and ensure proper specimen accessioning and patient ID under supervision of PAs and Pathologists.Clinical Data Review & Documentation: Summarize patient medical history from requisition forms, review EMRs for relevant clinical/radiologic data, and operate voice dictation and telepathology systems.Quality Control & Compliance: Check specimens and requisitions for accurate labeling and demographics, coordinate with accessioning to correct errors, and maintain specimen integrity throughout processing.Technical Support & Maintenance: Assist with frozen sections (orient, freeze, cut, stain), anticipate special processing needs (e.g., decalcification, lymphoma workup), troubleshoot technical systems, and maintain cleanliness and supply levels in the gross room.Collaboration & Escalation: Work closely with PAs and Pathologists, escalate complex cases as needed, assist with specimen distribution, and seek guidance for supervised specimen types while grossing independently within scope.Minimum RequirementsEducationAssociate's Degree- Laboratory Science/MLTExperienceNo ExperiencePreferred RequirementsExperience2-5 yearsBenefits And Legal StatementBJC Total RewardsAt BJC we're committed to providing you and your family with benefits and resources to help you manage your physical, emotional, social and financial well-being.Comprehensive medical, dental, vison, life insurance, and legal services available first day of the month after hire dateDisability insurance* paid for by BJCAnnual 4% BJC Automatic Retirement Contribution401(k) plan with BJC matchTuition Assistance available on first dayBJC Institute for Learning and DevelopmentHealth Care and Dependent Care Flexible Spending AccountsPaid Time Off benefit combines vacation, sick days, holidays and personal timeAdoption assistanceTo learn more, go to our Benefits Summary.*Not all benefits apply to all jobsThe above information on this description has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees in this position.
