Trailer Repair Mechanic – Intermodal (Avon, IN) Pay Rates: $24.00 to $28.00 Summary: Trailer Repair Mechanics are charged with repairing containers, trailers, and chassis. Repair & replacement work includes but is not limited to, containers, lights, tires, landing legs, brakes, and framework. Job Requirements: 18 years of age or older Valid driver’s license Must comply with established safety rules, policies, and procedures, including wearing required safety equipment Open availability (24/7/365) Minimum of 1-year of mechanic experience Willingness to work in varying weather conditions Trailer Mechanic must have basic set of hand tools Ability to lift more than 50lbs Ability to pass pre-employment background screen, physical and drug screen Responsibilities: The ability to diagnose failures and make repairs on mechanical, electrical, or other various systems on a trailer. Suspension repair Tank service and repair Knowledge of air brake systems and repairs Conducts routine/scheduled maintenance on railroad leased/owned containers and chassis Repairs equipment in accordance with railroad, IEP, manufacturer & FMCSA guidelines Documents repairs according to an established reporting system, verbally and in writing Repairs tires, brakes, lights, landing leg and framework Performs light welding when required Physical Demands: The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds Frequent standing, walking, balancing while walking on elevated catwalks, bending, and grasping. With assistance, occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds Must be able to fit through a tank trailer manhole Must be able to work in confined spaces.
