Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Standards Engineer to lead development, validation, and governance of product and interoperability standards across hardware, firmware and software domains. The role combines systems engineering, technical writing and regulatory compliance to produce clear specifications, test plans and certification artifacts, and to drive conformance and interoperability across internal teams and external standards bodies. The Senior Standards Engineer will own requirements traceability, change control, risk management and certification processes while facilitating technical committees and coordinating lab and field testing to ensure products meet quality, safety and regulatory obligations.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, author and maintain technical specifications, standards, and compliance documentation for hardware, firmware and embedded systems.
Define, manage and trace requirements through DOORS (or equivalent), ensuring requirements traceability from concept through test and release.
Create and execute test strategies, test plans and test cases for conformance, interoperability and validation testing; coordinate lab testing and interoperability events.
Lead conformance and interoperability testing efforts including SNMP, MQTT and TCP/IP based protocols; analyze results and coordinate defect resolution with engineering teams.
Drive certification and regulatory compliance activities, prepare certification artifacts, and liaise with certification bodies and regulatory agencies.
Perform risk assessments and formal analyses (FMEA), and integrate risk mitigation into product lifecycle and design controls.
Manage configuration, change control and release activities in collaboration with Product Lifecycle Management and Configuration Management teams.
Facilitate technical committees, working groups and stakeholder reviews; serve as technical committee liaison with standards organizations and industry consortia.
Provide systems engineering leadership for hardware-software integration, including metrology requirements and lab validation of embedded systems and firmware.
Author clear, concise technical documentation, user-facing compliance statements, and compliance reporting; maintain documentation in Confluence/SharePoint and version control.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (QA, firmware, hardware, cybersecurity, product management and support) to ensure alignment on standards, requirements and test outcomes.
Use and promote Agile and Waterfall project execution practices; manage and track work in JIRA, and maintain artifacts in DOORS, GIT and related toolsets.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering or equivalent; Masters degree preferred.
5+ years of professional experience in standards, systems engineering, test & validation, or regulatory compliance roles.
Strong technical writing skills with a track record of producing clear specifications, certification dossiers and compliance reports.
Experience facilitating working groups, stakeholder management and serving as a technical committee liaison or industry representative.
Knowledge of cybersecurity requirements for embedded products and experience integrating security controls into requirements and test plans.
Excellent communication, project management and cross-functional leadership skills; ability to balance technical detail with stakeholder needs.
