Our team is at the forefront of new technology, helping founders and their companies impact and change the world.The RoleThe primary responsibilities of the Tax Manager are to (a) coordinate and oversee the outsourced preparation of U.S. federal, state, local, and foreign income tax filings and investor reporting for our funds, (b) provide tax support to deal teams regarding appropriate structuring for investments, operations, and exits, (c) respond to investor inquiries, (d) handle tax controversy matters for the funds and associated legal entities, and (e) ad hoc tax research.This role requires an in-office presence 2 days a week in our Menlo Park, CA or San Francisco, CA officeTo join our team, you should be excited to:Tax Compliance and ReportingAnalyze transactions and GAAP trial balance information to convert from GAAP to § 704(b) to federal income tax basisPrepare general partner estimates on a quarterly basis including allocation schedules and respective 704(b) book-ups, as applicableLiaise with finance team to prepare tax estimates and payments for management companyAdvise the management company accounting team regarding tax issuesPrepare and update fund entity schedule for realized transactions, including analyzing the book/tax adjustmentsTrack flow-thru investments and ensure K-1s have been received from the underlying fund managersAdvise on tax structuring for our fund and general partner vehiclesCompile information for outside accounting firms to prepare partnership income tax returns and Schedules K-1Review returns and K-1s prepared by outside accounting firmsInternational Tax ReportingTrack and update foreign investments rollforward schedule and Form 926 disclosuresAssist outside advisors with CFC and PFIC analysisCompile financials and other information required for and review of foreign company filings (Forms 5471 and 8621) and foreign partner reporting and withholding (Forms 1042 and 8804)Tax ControversyRespond to taxing authority noticesManage, either directly or in coordination with outside advisors, tax examinationsTeam Process ImprovementsAnalyze current processes and feel inspired to improve upon them with technology and automationLead the evaluation and implementation of selected technology solutions Minimum QualificationsBA/BS in Accounting, Finance, or comparable degreeAdvanced skills and experience with the U.S. federal income taxation of partnerships, particularly in the asset management industryHave a detailed understanding of U.S. multi-state and foreign filing requirements and reporting obligations for private investment fundsCPA/MS Tax/JD strongly preferredMinimum 6+ years experience, in public accounting, a comparable industry role, or a combination of bothHighly organized, with strong attention to detail, follow up and follow through on itemsStrong communication skills, and highly collaborative-able to work well across teamsIntermediate level of proficiency with MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), GSuite, Adobe AcrobatLow ego, high empathy, and the capacity to collaborate effectively with diverse teams The anticipated salary range for this role is between $179,000 - $209,000, actual starting pay may vary based on a range of factors which can include experience, skills, and scope.
