This role offers an opportunity to develop litigation and client‑advice skills in an agency that values training and mentorship. Duties Represent the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) in guardianship proceedings, Adult Protective Services (APS) cases, and administrative hearings, with experience in Washington’s Administrative Procedures Act and judicial review. Handle licensing matters for the Residential Care Services division of DSHS in superior court and appellate levels across Whatcom, Skagit, Snohomish, San Juan and Island counties. Provide tailored legal advice under pressure, evaluating evidence for case managers and social workers, preparing witnesses and evidence for hearings and trials, and presenting settlement options. Represent DSHS in litigation and on appeal, collaborating with the AGO Vulnerable Adult Task Force and the Medicaid Fraud Control Division Long Term Care Coalition. Assist with a wide variety of clients and cases as required by the office’s business needs. Qualifications Accelerated learning, adaptability to multiple case types and shifting assignments. Interest and experience in civil litigation, including discovery, drafting motions and briefs, negotiation and oral argument. Ability to travel throughout assigned counties and within the state. Proficiency with electronic files and case management tools. Positive teamwork orientation, strong oral and written communication skills. Passion for protecting vulnerable populations, multitasking organizational skills, and commitment to an inclusive, collaborative work environment. Licensed to practice law in Washington State or actively pursuing admission.
