Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager to lead tax compliance and consulting for a diverse portfolio of clients. The Tax Manager will oversee preparation and review of federal and state tax returns, manage client relationships, and provide strategic tax planning for partnerships, S corporations, and high-net-worth individuals. This role combines technical expertise, team leadership, and project management to ensure accurate, timely filings and proactive tax advice.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and review preparation of federal, state, and local tax returns for partnerships, S corporations, LLCs, and individuals.
Manage a portfolio of clients, building strong relationships and serving as the primary tax contact for planning and compliance matters.
Provide technical tax research and develop tax-efficient strategies for business entities and individual clients.
Supervise, mentor, and develop senior staff and associates, including assigning work, reviewing deliverables, and providing performance feedback.
Coordinate and manage tax engagements, including timelines, deliverables, budgets, and quality control.
Oversee complex tax compliance tasks such as multi-state allocations, basis calculations, and partner/shareholder tax allocations.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of tax law changes and communicate impacts and opportunities to clients and internal teams.
Collaborate with audit, consulting, and advisory teams on cross-functional client needs and special projects.
Utilize tax software and technology to streamline processes, improve accuracy, and increase efficiency.
Participate in business development activities, client proposals, and presentations to expand service offerings and firm growth.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Accounting or related field; Masters in Tax or relevant advanced degree is a plus.
CPA license required or active CPA candidate; substantial progress toward CPA acceptable in some cases.
Minimum 5-7 years of public accounting tax experience with progressive responsibilities; prior Tax Manager experience strongly preferred.
Demonstrated experience preparing and reviewing tax returns for partnerships, S corporations, and individuals, including complex returns and multi-state filings.
Strong technical knowledge of federal and state tax laws, regulations, and tax research methodologies.
Proven leadership and people management skills, including coaching, delegation, and performance management.
Experience working in public accounting environment with client-facing responsibilities and business development exposure.
Proficiency with tax software such as CCH and UltraTax (preferred) and familiarity with common research tools and firm technology.
Excellent communication skills both verbal and written with the ability to explain complex tax concepts to clients and colleagues.
Highly organized, detail-oriented, able to manage multiple engagements and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
