Fleet Mechanic Assistant
General PurposeThe Mechanic Assistant is to help provide services to all mechanics when needed, as well asmaintaining all vehicle maintenance schedules. Efficiently communicate and coordinate withFleet Management about the purchase of parts as needed for repairsSupervision ReceivedReports to the Fleet Supervisor.Supervision ExercisedNone.Essential Duties & Responsibilities Responsible for performing maintenance repairs such as tune-ups oil change's, checktires and brakes, replace spark plugs and engages in other similar tasks for all TOPCvehicle/assets. Assists mechanics with electrical systems such as replacing batteries, starters, and lights. Test drives vehicles to ensure repairs are completed properly. Cleans the shop and returns tools to proper location. Maintains inventory for all TOPC vehicle/assets. Inspects tools and equipment to ensure they are in working order. Thrive with a team and under pressure in challenging environments. Performs other related duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of vehicle repair. Excellent mechanical skills. Ability to follow instructions. Ability to use power and hand tools. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to read service and repair manuals. Ability to complete assigned tasks in a timely fashion. Ability to work well with a team and under pressure in challenging environments.Minimum QualificationsEducation and Experience: Mechanical background in repair and preventative maintenance on vehicles and largeequipment. Knowledge of tools and equipment used in the automotive trade. ASE certifications or equivalent. Welding qualified preferred but not required. Must be able to use computer diagnosis system. High school diploma or equivalent required. 2-year minimum experience. Must obtain Texas DL within 6 months of hire if not current/expired.Tools & Equipment UsedPower tools, hand tools, torches, broom, tire mounting machine, wheel balancer and vehiclehoist.Special RequirementsMust hold and maintain a valid Texas State Driver's license or obtain one within six months ofhire.Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening and random screenings while employed.Physical Demands Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform repairs and inspections. Must be able to work safely in a noisy area with many odors present. Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
