They work with limited oversight to develop a research investigation plan and conduct research related to projects and project teams. The teammate will conduct in-depth analyses and integration of data derived from single or multiple tests to present a comprehensive picture and recommended actions. The individual coordinates the development and implementation of new methods to address specific product, process, and consumer issues.This role supports Edgewell’s mission to Make Useful Things Joyful by delivering transformative innovative concepts and technologies against unmet consumer and business needs. The role will work closely with Marketing and Product Testing teams to design and execute user studies that generate meaningful evidence of product performance improvements. These insights will inform iterative development, enabling the refinement of concepts based on both lab data and real-world user feedback.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:The essential accountability of this position is to lead; design, execute and interpret product and consumer research investigations in support of business needs and objectives:Lead one or more projects of greater level of complexity and scientific challenge.May guide and/or coordinate tasks of Technicians, Interns, or Temporary personnel.Design and execution of research investigations consistent with sound, robust scientific investigations that meet international standards and are defensible in front of the scientific community.Demonstrated solid, scientific-based understanding of the principles of concentrated area of science and consumer research.Responsible for designing a robust research study that is objective driven and meets the needs of the project team.Presentation of all information in a manner that is coherent and accurately reflects the results obtained in the research investigation.“Up-to-date” knowledge and application of statistical analysis procedures for the investigation of product/process/consumer data.In-depth functional understanding of technical tools that support testing (automated data collection systems, statistical software, Microsoft Office, etc.).Maintains and expands “knowledge base” required within the area of work.Demonstrated actions to take initiative, think and work independently, problem-solve, work in teams, and multitask; a solution-oriented professionalParticipates in cross functional and project teams by providing technical understanding of core areas of expertise.Conducting all activities consistent with company and departmental policies and proceduresMetallurgical LabMaintain, train, and operate the equipment necessary for setting, potting, cross-sectioning and polishing metallographic samples.Maintain and operate all equipment in the Metallurgical Lab in proper working order. These systems include:Stereomicroscope, Microscope/MetallographMicrohardness/Multi Tester SystemsSalt Spray Tester/Climatic ChamberInstron/Satec Tensile Compression SystemsMetallographic Sample Prep SystemsArchitecture LabMaintain, train, operate and evaluate the equipment necessary for prototype development.Solid understanding/design of electromechanical systems.Knowledge in Laser welding and cutting.Knowledge in dimensional and geometry measurement using OGP and MicroscopeKnowledge in sourcing and integrating electromechanical equipment necessary to run and evaluate concepts.Maintain and operate all equipment in the Architecture Lab in proper working order. These systems include:Various welding and scoring lasersIn-house developed prototype production systemsPrototype evaluation testing equipmentOGPMaintain, update and operate all ancillary energy systemsPrototype LabProvide support for all assembly and testing equipment within the Prototype LabFacilitate the design and implementation of prototype assembly fixturesREQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:Bachelor’s Degree in related Engineering fieldPractical experience in Research and DevelopmentPREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:2+ years of prototyping experienceAbility to work with engineers, technicians and toolmakersProvide support to other departments, program management teams and manufacturingProficient in design and making prototyping fixtures for new concept studyExtensive knowledge and experience in machining, metal forming and other nontraditional processes such as EDM and CNCProficient in mechanical property tests such as tensile, elongation and microhardness testingKnowledge in chemical analysis and Microstructure of steelProficient in Windows applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:Key internal relationships:Professional and technical staff in the DepartmentProduct Development and Innovation TeamsRD&E, Automation, Program Management, Legal StaffQuality Assurance and ManufacturingKey external relationships:ConsultantsVendorsWORK ENVIRONMENT:Some travel may be requiredNo extraordinary physical requirementsWith this position working in Labs, this position will require 5 days in the officeRequires wearing safety glasses and hearing protection in the manufacturing facilityEdgewell is an equal opportunity employer.
