Mainframe Developer

Job Description: We are seeking a Mainframe Engineer to support and modernize hybrid environments spanning IBM z/OS Mainframe and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). This role applies SRE principles—including automation, reliability engineering, incident management, and continuous improvement—to ensure the availability and performance of mission-critical systems.The ideal candidate has deep expertise in IBM z/OS, CA-IDEAL, and COBOL batch applications, with an interest in integrating and modernizing legacy workloads using OCI and cloud-native technologies.Key ResponsibilitiesEnsure the reliability, availability, and performance of IBM Mainframe and OCI environments.Define and manage SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets.Automate operational tasks using Python, Go, REXX, or similar technologies.Participate in on-call support, incident response, root cause analysis, and postmortems.Administer IBM z/OS environments, including JES, RACF, WLM, SMF, and performance tuning.Support and maintain CA-IDEAL online applications and COBOL batch workloads, including JCL, DB2/VSAM, and batch scheduling.Troubleshoot hybrid cloud integrations between OCI and mainframe platforms.Improve operational efficiency through automation and reliability best practices.Support disaster recovery, capacity planning, and performance optimization.Must haves: 6+ years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering, Mainframe Administration, or Systems Engineering.Strong experience administering IBM z/OS environments.Hands-on experience supporting CA-IDEAL and COBOL batch applications.Experience with JCL, DB2, VSAM, and enterprise batch scheduling.Scripting or programming experience (Python, Go, REXX, or similar).Experience supporting hybrid cloud environments, preferably Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).Strong troubleshooting, automation, and performance tuning skills.Nice to havesExperience integrating IBM Mainframe environments with OCI.Knowledge of CICS, IMS, Datacom, or DB2 on z/OS.Familiarity with Google SRE practices (SLOs, error budgets, toil reduction).Experience with mainframe modernization or cloud migration initiatives.IBM z/OS or OCI certifications are a plus.Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
