Registered Nurse Cardiac Medical Step-down

Ascension is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse for our Cardiac Medical Step-down unit within our Healthcare & Medical Services department. As an RN in this high-acuity, fast-paced environment, you will provide comprehensive, evidence-based nursing care to adult patients with complex cardiac and medical conditions who require continuous monitoring and frequent assessments, but who are stable enough to be cared for outside of intensive care. You will perform thorough patient assessments, interpret cardiac monitoring and telemetry, administer medications and IV therapies, manage post-procedural and post-surgical cardiac patients, and collaborate closely with cardiologists, hospitalists, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, and the broader interdisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized care plans. In this role you will continuously evaluate patient responses, recognize early signs of clinical deterioration, and escalate care appropriately, using critical thinking and sound clinical judgment. You will educate patients and families on cardiac disease processes, medications, lifestyle changes, and discharge instructions to support safe transitions of care and reduce readmissions. Your work will include coordinating and prioritizing care for a diverse patient population, delegating tasks to nursing assistants and support staff, maintaining accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record, and adhering to infection prevention, safety, and quality standards.
