DescriptionSummary: The emergency department ward clerk through communication, requisitioning and management of supplies and equipment, coordinates the activities of the nursing staff, the patient, the physician, other hospital departments and visitors. He/she performs general receptionist and clerical duties in order to facilitate efficient functioning of the emergency department nursing unit.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Answers signal lights, bells, or intercom system to determine patients' needs.
Bathes, dresses, and undresses patients.
Transports patients or assists patients to walk.
Drapes patients for examinations and treatments, and remains with patients to perform such duties as holding instruments and adjusting lights.
Turns and repositions bedfast patients, alone or with assistance, to prevent bedsores.
Changes bed linens, runs errands, directs visitors, and answers telephone.
Takes and records temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration rates, and food and fluid intake and output, as directed.
Cleans, sterilizes, stores, prepares, and issues dressing packs, treatment trays, and other supplies.
Dusts and cleans emergency patients' rooms.
Education and/or Experience: One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
High school graduate or equivalent preferred
Ability to communicate effectively and document information accurately
Ability to deal efficiently and effectively with a wide variety of individuals
Knowledge of basic medical terminology preferred
Basic computer knowledge is preferred
QualificationsEducation and/or Experience:
One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
