This position is responsible for preparing complete and competitive estimates from conceptual review through final bid submission.The Senior Estimator supports annual booking and backlog goals while maximizing project profitability and ensuring a smooth transition from estimating to operations.Key ResponsibilitiesEstimating & Preconstruction (Primary Focus) Prepare detailed cost estimates including labor, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and production ratesReview drawings, specifications, geotechnical reports, and bid documentsConduct quantity takeoffs using industry softwareIdentify constructability risks and value engineering opportunitiesEvaluate DBE participation requirementsAttend pre-bid meetings and site visitsDevelop detailed scopes of work with inclusions and exclusionsAnalyze historical cost data, crew productivity, and safety considerationsNegotiate pricing and scope adjustmentsTrack and follow up on submitted proposalsProcess & Team Leadership Lead project handoff meetings with project managers and field teamsParticipate in post-project reviewsSupport staff training and mentorship of junior estimatorsParticipate in weekly estimating meetingsMaintain estimating procedures and documentation standardsBusiness Development & Industry Engagement Interface with Owners, Architects, Engineers, vendors, and subcontractorsAttend industry events and cultivate client relationshipsResearch future bidding opportunitiesQualifications 10+ years of heavy civil estimating experienceStrong background in grading, utilities, concrete, aggregate, and asphalt pavingExperience with North Carolina DOT specifications and public bid processesAbility to manage multiple bids simultaneouslyStrong math, analytical, and problem-solving skillsHigh attention to detail and ability to work under deadline pressureProficiency in estimating and takeoff software, including:B2W EstimateAGTEKPlanSwiftSmartBidMicrosoft Excel and WordExcellent verbal and written communication skillsAbility to travel locally to pre-bid meetings and site visitsAbility to work extended hours during critical bid periodsWhat We Offer Competitive compensation packageAnnual performance-based bonusCompany vehicle, gas card, and cell phoneComprehensive medical, dental, and vision insuranceFlexible Spending Account (FSA) program401(k) with 4% company match8 paid holidays120 hours of PTO in the first yearLong-term career growth within a stable, family-owned organizationWhy Join Sunrock?
