Senior Linux Systems EngineerJob SummaryWe are seeking a Senior Linux Systems Engineer to design, implement, operate, automate, and secure large-scale enterprise Linux environments. This role is a hands-on technical leader within Infrastructure Operations, serving as an escalation point for complex issues, mentoring team members, and partnering with Security, Application, and Database teams to deliver reliable, compliant services. The ideal candidate combines deep Linux engineering expertise with strong operational discipline, documentation skills, and a continuous-improvement mindset.Essential Functions / ResponsibilitiesDesign, deploy, administer, and support enterprise Linux systems across multiple distributions in on-premises and hybrid environments.Troubleshoot complex system, performance, availability, and security issues; perform root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions.Serve as a senior escalation resource for critical production incidents; participate in incident response and post-incident reviews.Develop and maintain automation to improve reliability, standardization, patching, and configuration management.Administer secure file transfer and data-movement platforms; ensure secure configuration, performance, and audit readiness.Implement system hardening, vulnerability remediation, access controls, and monitoring aligned with applicable compliance requirements.Perform system maintenance including patching, upgrades, lifecycle management, capacity planning, and performance tuning.Partner with Application, Database, and Security teams to support business-critical workloads and initiatives.Create and maintain SOPs, runbooks, build standards, and other operational documentation.Mentor and support junior staff; promote best practices, standardization, and continuous improvement.Technical QualificationsLinux platforms: Hands-on administration of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), Oracle Linux, Rocky Linux, Ubuntu Server, and CentOS (or equivalent), including system tuning, storage configuration, networking, logging, and service management.Scripting & automation: Advanced Bash; automation with Python; familiarity with Perl (legacy tooling); Ansible for configuration management, standardized builds, patching, compliance checks, and monitoring automation.File transfer & data movement: Operational support of Aspera, CrushFTP, GATE, FileCatalyst, and secure protocols including SFTP and FTPS; administration, troubleshooting, secure configuration, and audit support.Security & compliance: Experience operating in regulated or audited environments; system hardening, vulnerability remediation, access controls, and monitoring aligned to frameworks such as CMMC, NIST, and/or ISO 27001.IT service management: Working knowledge of ITIL-aligned incident, change, and problem management; participation in maintenance windows and operational reviews.Database/application hosting: Familiarity supporting Linux platforms hosting PostgreSQL, MySQL, and/or Oracle databases in partnership with application and database teams.Required Qualifications7+ years of hands-on experience engineering and supporting enterprise Linux environments.Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills across OS, networking, storage, and application service dependencies.Demonstrated experience with scripting/automation and configuration management (e.g., Bash/Python/Ansible).Experience supporting production operations including incident response, change management, and documentation/runbooks.Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate across Infrastructure, Security, and Application teams.Ability to participate in an on-call rotation and respond to incidents outside normal business hours.Preferred QualificationsExperience in regulated, audited, or high-compliance environments (e.g., CMMC, NIST, ISO 27001).ITIL Foundation (or higher).RHCSA, RHCE, or equivalent Linux certification.Security and/or compliance-related certifications.EducationBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.Work Location & ScheduleWork model: On-site. Standard hours: [e.g., Monday–Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm], with flexibility to support maintenance windows as needed. On-site days: [list days, e.g., Monday–Friday].On-Call & Support ExpectationsParticipation in a scheduled on-call rotation is required to support critical Linux platforms and services. Responsibilities include responding to alerts/incidents outside normal business hours, performing troubleshooting and remediation, and coordinating with Infrastructure and Security partners. Timely response, clear communication, and strong ownership are expected during incident situations.Travel RequirementsOccasional domestic and/or international travel may be required to support data centers, sites, project initiatives, audits, and major infrastructure activities. Travel is typically planned in advance.Work EnvironmentThis position is primarily performed in an office and/or data center environment. Work may involve after-hours maintenance windows, being on-site for critical events, and using standard computer and telecommunications equipment.
