Primary Purpose and Function
The Chef facilitates meal preparation by providing appetizing and nutritious meals for clients, as well as special events as needed. This position is responsible for daily meal prep, food purchasing, food and supply inventory, and maintaining the kitchen according to county health codes and ServeSafe standards.
The Chef also provides instructional nutrition and cooking information to clients as needed on an individual or group basis.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Planning and providing all meals (breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner) for clients
Providing food at special events as needed
Ensuring kitchen safety by keeping the kitchen environment clean at all times; ensuring harmful items such as kitchen knives are locked up when not in use
Follow a menu to properly prepare and cook all meals
Consideration of food allergies and preferences as needed
Responsible for safe food standards including sanitation duties, food temperatures, refrigerator temperatures and food handling.
Communicates information to the appropriate personnel about unsafe conditions and defective equipment.
Creating and managing food supply purchases to operate kitchen, menu development and other duties.
Oversee Refrigerator, Freezer, and Pantry inventory spreadsheet
Grocery shopping weekly as indicated from inventory
Oversees Chef’s Garden; makes recommendations to Executive Team
Instruct clients on cooking methods and nutritional information as needed, and guided by the Executive Team
Requirements:
Core Competency (minimum skills, knowledge and experience needed to perform essential functions and responsibilities)
ServeSafe Standards
Culinary and Nutrition group facilitation
Menu creation
Census & Inventory
Ability to communicate clearly, both in writing and verbally
Preferred Qualifications
One year of chef / cook experience
One year of treatment center experience preferred.
Food Handler's Certification (servsafe certified) preferred.
Often required to stand and sit; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and in some instances up to 40 pounds
Experience in a behavioral health treatment facility preferred.
Valid driver’s license, clean driving record and insurable by our insurance carrier.
Possess a professional demeanor and a collaborative spirit.
Have a general understanding and/or training in cultural diversity issues.
