JOB TITLE: Combustion Turbine TechnicianREQUISITION: FOS00JJDEPARTMENT: Emporia Energy CenterLOCATION: Emporia, KSPosition SummaryThe Combustion Turbine Technician is responsible for the safe, reliable operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of combustion turbine generation assets at the Emporia Energy Center and associated utility-scale solar facilities.This role requires a multi-skilled, self-motivated technician who takes ownership of equipment performance, ensures unit readiness, and contributes to plant reliability and continuous improvement. The technician works both independently and as part of a cross-functional team to support plant operations and maintenance objectives.Key ResponsibilitiesOperations and Equipment OwnershipEnsure combustion turbines and balance-of-plant systems are operated safely and maintained in a ready-to-start conditionMonitor equipment performance using DCS/SCADA systems and respond to alarms and abnormal conditionsMaintain clear communication with dispatch, plant leadership, and team members to support safe and reliable operationsTake ownership of assigned systems and proactively identify performance or reliability concernsMaintenance and TroubleshootingPerform mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation maintenance on plant equipmentDiagnose and resolve issues using technical documentation, schematics, control system data, and field testingTroubleshoot turbines, generators, motors, pumps, valves, gearboxes, control systems, and auxiliary equipmentSupport planned outages and emergent work with a focus on quality, efficiency, and safetyWork independently to resolve issues while knowing when to escalate complex problemsSolar Facility SupportMonitor solar site performance and manage alarms through SCADA systemsTroubleshoot and maintain inverters, AC/DC systems, trackers, and PV modulesSupport maintenance activities at solar facilities, including occasional travelIdentify and address performance issues to ensure optimal solar generation outputPlanning / Documentation / Continuous ImprovementComplete detailed and accurate work orders, including clear documentation of findings and repairsIdentify required parts, generate requisitions, and support inventory managementMaintain and update plant drawings, procedures, and technical documentationCoordinate contractor and OEM support activitiesParticipate in plant improvement initiatives focused on reliability, efficiency, and cost reductionSafetyPerform all work in compliance with safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirementsIdentify and mitigate hazards through pre-job planning and job hazard analysis (JHA)Follow all lockout/tagout (LOTO), permitting, and energy isolation requirementsUse and maintain appropriate PPEStop work and address unsafe conditions when identifiedReport near misses, incidents, and safety concerns promptlyActively contribute to a strong safety culture by looking out for team members and reinforcing safe behaviorsRequired QualificationsMinimum of 4 years of experience in power generation, industrial maintenance, or related technical field (or equivalent combination of education, military, or industrial experience)Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and/or control systemsDemonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair industrial equipmentValid driver's license with medical cardPreferred QualificationsExperience in power plant operations and maintenanceExperience with combustion turbines and/or utility-scale solar systemsFamiliarity with DCS platforms (GE Mark VIe, Emerson Ovation, or similar)Skills in areas such as: (Precision alignment, Welding or machining, Rigging, Electrical testing and relay troubleshootingSkills and CompetenciesStrong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skillsAbility to work independently with minimal supervisionSolid understanding of equipment reliability and system operationEffective written and verbal communication skillsTeam-oriented mindset with a commitment to accountability and continuous improvementWork Schedule and ConditionsTypical schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PMShared on-call and weekend coverage requiredOvertime required during outages and special projectsWork performed both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditionsOccasional overnight travel to support solar facility maintenanceEvergy has a clear mission - To empower a better future.
