Teaching Assistants play a key role in supporting classroom instruction and helping bring our vision of rigorous, joyful, and student-centered learning to life.Working under the supervision of the Principal and alongside the classroom teacher, this role supports the delivery of high-quality instruction while helping to maintain a structured, engaging, and inclusive classroom environment.At Bronx Arts, Teaching Assistants are more than support staff—they are partners in instruction, culture-builders, and champions for student success.Key ResponsibilitiesSupport teachers in delivering high-quality instruction to individuals and small groups of studentsReinforce lessons by reviewing material and helping students stay engaged and on taskAssist with classroom setup and maintain a clean, welcoming, and well-organized learning environmentMaintain a beautiful, organized classroom that showcases student learning, including regularly updated bulletin boards and displaysSupport student learning during reading, writing, and math activities, including conferencing and skill-buildingUse positive behavior management techniques to support a strong classroom cultureObserve and communicate student academic and social-emotional progress to the teacherAssist with grading, anecdotal note-taking, and data entry (including PowerSchool)Support instructional activities, projects, and small group work as directed by the teacherStep in to support classroom instruction in the teacher’s absence, as neededSupport arrival, dismissal, lunch, and transitions to ensure a safe and orderly environmentPromote positive habits and maintain a structured, respectful environment in shared spaces (e.g., cafeteria, hallways)Participate in staff meetings and professional development opportunitiesAdhere to school schedules, systems, and expectationsWhat We’re Looking ForA strong commitment to our mission, core values, and a high-expectations school cultureProfessional maturity, sound judgment, and the ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with students, staff, and familiesA reliable, detail-oriented team player who takes initiative and contributes to a smooth, well-run classroom and schoolA growth-minded professional with a “do whatever it takes” attitude in service of studentsA passion for the arts and belief in creativity as a driver of student engagement and successQualificationsHigh school diploma required; some college credits requiredNew York State Teaching Assistant Certification (Level I, II, or III) requiredPrior experience working with elementary-aged children preferredSpanish language proficiency is a plusClearance for fingerprinting and criminal background check requiredCompensation$45,000 annuallyBenefits403(b) retirement plan, with up to 3% employer match after one year of serviceHealth Insurance, with free options available for self and childrenDental and Vision InsuranceLife, Short and Long Term Disability InsuranceFlexible Spending AccountBronx Arts is an equal opportunity employer.
