THE POSITIONThe Transportation Construction Inspector with the Department of Transportation plays an important role in keeping projects on track and safe. DESCRIPTION OF WORKThis position supports the daily inspection and documentation of transportation construction activities to ensure that work meets required standards. The role helps maintain accurate records, reviews construction practices, and supports project oversight. As a Transportation Construction Inspector, you will perform the following duties:
Documentation Review:Examine construction records and verify accuracy against current policies and procedures
Field Inspection:Check materials, work methods, and placement to ensure they meet approved plans and specifications
Project Tracking:Record work progress, monitor quantities, and update project documentation systems
Safety Oversight:Review safety practices on site and advise contractor staff on required corrections
Plan Interpretation:Analyze construction plans and explain requirements to contractor personnel as needed
Support Tasks:Assist with work orders, payments, and other administrative duties related to project operations

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment
Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
You will work closely with vendors and work hours may change based on vendor availability.
Telework:This position may be eligible to telework part time. Specific details of the telework schedule will be discussed during the interview process. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Hollidaysburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.
Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $45,907.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITYQUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
One year as an Engineering Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration);or
Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration);or
Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work;or
Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics;orOne year of construction inspection experience, and an associate's degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology;or
An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
This position requires possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License or equivalent.
