They may be subject to change at any time due to reasonable accommodation or other reasons.POSITION PURPOSE/SUMMARYSchool nurses will be employed to provide basic health care services to district students during the school day, thereby minimizing student absence due to illness and creating a climate of health and well-being in the district schools.QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTSSchool nurses shall have active licensure as a registered nurse in the state of Missouri and have a current certification in CPR at a minimum.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESMaintain confidentiality and comprehensive health records:Ensure confidentiality about students' health, illness, or accidentsMaintain cumulative health records, including state immunization status for each studentKeep a daily log of all student clinic visitsComplete accident/injury reports as necessaryManage immunization compliance:Review each student's immunization statusSend notification of unmet immunization requirements form, when appropriateObtain up-to-date immunization records or medical/religious/immunization-in-progress forms as neededProvide health services and direct care:Perform mandated screenings (vision and hearing) for referred students and annually in grades K, 1, 3, 5, and 7Perform special care procedures (i.e., catheterization, tube feedings, tracheostomy care, etc.)Provide first aid to ill or injured studentsAdminister medication according to district policy with accurate documentationConduct student wellness checks during/after times of dysregulationManage clinic resources and communication:Work with the building financial secretary and/or the Coordinator of Nursing and Wellness to secure supplies and equipmentMaintain clinics with supplies, first aid materials, equipment, and necessary resourcesNotify the appropriate building and transportation staff of student health conditionsInform families and teachers of health concernsMaintain professional qualifications:Participate in and obtain CPR certification biannually through district-provided coursesADDITIONAL DUTIESServe as a resource person regarding individual student matters and curriculum support for building personnel.Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal and/or the Coordinator of Nursing and Wellness.Effectively communicate, verbally and in written form, with administrators, staff, and the community as needed.MENTAL DEMANDSAbility to maintain highly confidential information; communicate clearly both orally and in writing, and/or ability to reason and make appropriate decisions. The nurse will also need to keep impeccable records and be detail-oriented. Solve a variety of problems in many different situations.PHYSICAL DEMANDSAn individual who holds this position must have the ability to concentrate in an environment where numerous conversations and activities may be taking place simultaneously.This employee will frequently lift over 20 lbs and occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull up to 100 lbs. The employee will reach, stand, walk, grasp, and use repetitive movements in this role.This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities that are required of the employee.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENTEmployment will be on an at-will basis for 9 1 / 2 months, beginning with the first day of the work calendar or at the time of employment for the duration of the school year with prorated personal leave. Each nurse will be provided a work calendar showing specific daily work schedules of the employee. The work calendar may be modified by the Board of Education at any time, as needs dictate.Seven and 1 / 2 hours for elementary and middle schools and eight hours for high school (including a paid 30-minute lunch period) will constitute a workday for school nurses. A definite daily schedule will be established by the building principal and approved by the Chief Human Resources Officer.The yearly salary will be disbursed in twenty-four (24) equal payments.EVALUATIONEnd of the year performance evaluations will occur annually in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of professional support staff personnel.
