Payroll Specialist

Payroll Specialist The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for all tasks necessary to accomplish the organization's multi-state payroll processing objectives with a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality. This position will process all payroll related time entry, tax deposits, reports, benefit deductions, W2s, and audit document requests.Requirements:Process high-volume, multi-state payrolls accurately and in compliance with company policies and legal requirements (federal, state, and local).Research and resolve payroll discrepancies, associate inquiries, and tax issues in a timely manner.Calculate and process garnishments, levies, child support orders, and other involuntary deductions.Partner with HR, HRIS, and Benefits teams to ensure accurate associate data.Support payroll tax filing processes and assist with quarterly and year-end activities.Assist with onboarding and offboarding payroll activities including final pay calculations and state-specific termination requirements.Support payroll system updates, testing, integration and enhancements within UKG Pro and UKG Workforce Management.Contribute to process documentation, standard operating procedures, and continuous payroll process improvements to support scalable, high-volume operations.Maintain strict confidentiality of associate payroll and personal information.Assist with internal and external payroll-related audits and provide required documentation.Education and Experience:Bachelor's degree in human resources, finance or business administration, or 5+ years of progressively responsible payroll experience is required.3+ years of experience processing payroll required.Multi-state payroll experience preferred.Experience with tax reconciliations preferred.Required Licenses:CPP certification is preferred.Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge:Solid understanding of federal and state wage and hour laws including payroll, taxes, withholding, deductions, and garnishments.Skilled in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.Thorough understanding of payroll processing, procedures, and payroll tax reports.Significant knowledge of payroll administration, including state and federal regulations.Travel:Minimal travel is required.Competencies:Analytical Synthesizes complex or diverse information; Collects and researches data; Uses intuition and experience to complement data; Designs workflows and procedures.Problem Solving Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; Gathers and analyzes information skillfully; Develops alternative solutions; Works well in group problem solving situations; Uses reason even when dealing with emotional topics.Technical Skills Assesses own strengths and weaknesses; Pursues training and development opportunities; Strives to continuously build knowledge and skills; Shares expertise with others.Verbal Communication Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; listens and gets clarification; Responds well to questions; Demonstrates group presentation skills; Participates in meetings.Customer Service Responds promptly to customer needs; Responds to requests for service and assistance; Meets commitments.Quality Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; Looks for ways to improve and promote quality; Applies feedback to improve performance; Monitors own work to ensure quality.Dependability Follows instructions, responds to management direction; Takes responsibility for own actions; Keeps commitments; commits to long hours of work when necessary to reach goals. Completes tasks on time or notifies appropriate person with an alternate plan.Supervisor Responsibilities:This position has no supervisory responsibilities.Physical Requirements:This position is subject to sedentary work; exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involved sitting most of the time. Walking and standing are required only occasionally.Physical Activities:This position is subject to the following physical activities: talking, hearing, and the use of hands, wrists, or fingers in repetitive motions.Visual Acuity:The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; expansive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly of fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.Working Conditions:This position operates in a professional office environment.
