As a Building Inspector, you will: Perform inspections on residential, commercial, and industrial structures to ensure compliance with adopted building codes. Conduct plan reviews, verifying structural components, materials, and code requirements. Approve adjustments or exceptions within established code guidelines. Investigate complaints and evaluate existing structures for compliance issues. Provide education and guidance to contractors, developers, and the public. Prepare detailed inspection reports and maintain accurate records. Assist with reports and presentations for boards and commissions. Collaborate with City departments and the City Attorney on compliance matters.Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent required. Five (5) or more years of progressively responsible experience in building construction, inspections, or a closely related field. Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience that provide the required knowledge and abilities will be considered. Valid Driver's License required. Degree or coursework in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architectural Design, or a related field. Experience working with municipal codes, inspections, or regulatory compliance.Licenses & Certifications ICC Building Inspector or Mechanical Certification required within 12 months of hire. North Dakota Master or Journeyman Plumbing License required for employees performing plumbing inspections. Manufactured Homes Inspection Certificate required within 24 months of hire.Work Environment? This position includes a mix of field and office work and requires: Physical activity such as climbing, lifting (up to 50 pounds), walking, and standing. Exposure to construction sites, weather conditions, noise, and equipment. Routine local travel for inspections. Working around dust, fumes, mechanical parts, and other environmental conditions.
