Reading Teacher, Alpha - $120,000/year USD

CrossoverAustin, TXApril 15th, 2026
On-site role at an Alpha campus in one of the following locations: Lake Forest CA, Palo Alto CA, Piedmont CA, San Francisco CA, Santa Monica CA, Greenwich CT, Chicago IL, Boston MA, New York City NY, or Chantilly VA (relocation assistance available)Annual salary of $120,000, distributed weekly. Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage begins on day oneDaily instruction supported by AI-driven tools and adaptive learning technologyYou understand that 20 minutes of diagnostic-driven reading instruction outperforms 90 minutes of scripted lessons, and you have student outcomes that demonstrate it. You've seen children break through phonics barriers when you personally identified the instructional gap rather than following a predetermined sequence. If building lessons from live student data represents professional autonomy rather than added burden, this role is worth your consideration.Alpha's reading instruction operates on one principle: instructional time is precious. You'll facilitate 20-minute workshop sessions designed around each student's actual needs rather than prescribed pacing calendars. Your responsibilities include assessing reading proficiency, organizing targeted groups, and providing high-impact structured literacy instruction (phonics, fluency, comprehension) for students aged 4-7 that produces measurable weekly progress. AI-powered adaptive platforms work alongside you, producing performance analytics that inform tomorrow's instruction before today's session concludes. This position evolves. During your first year, you'll be immersed in classroom practice: facilitating workshops, conducting motivational sessions that transform reluctant readers into enthusiastic learners, and delivering detailed observations to the technology team refining Alpha's AI literacy platform. As these tools expand and your input influences their development, your professional impact extends beyond your immediate students. You'll contribute to building a reading program that functions across multiple campuses, scaling what you accomplish with 15 students into a framework that serves hundreds. If you've dedicated your career to demonstrating the effectiveness of structured literacy and you're prepared to combine that expertise with technology that multiplies your reach, this is where your influence transcends a single classroom. What You Will Be DoingCreating and facilitating 20-minute reading workshops informed by your own diagnostic evaluations of each student's reading proficiency and instructional gapsLeveraging AI-generated student performance analytics to modify groupings and instructional priorities between sessions rather than waiting for quarterly assessmentsFacilitating motivational sessions that cultivate intrinsic reading engagement through age-appropriate gamification and personalized goal-setting with K-2 learnersPiloting and assessing AI literacy platforms during live workshops, then delivering structured feedback to the technology team regarding effectiveness and areas for improvementMonitoring quantifiable outcomes (fluency progress, decoding advancement, accuracy gains) and applying insights to refine instructional methods on a weekly basisWhat You Won’t Be DoingImplementing a scripted or commercially packaged reading curriculum. You conduct diagnostics and create instruction independently.Delivering 60-90 minute lecture-based literacy blocks. Sessions are brief, targeted, and high-intensity.Working exclusively with below-grade-level readers. You'll provide instruction to all K-2 students regardless of reading proficiency.Functioning independently from technology. AI adaptive platforms are embedded in your daily practice, not peripheral tools.Deferring instructional adjustments until quarterly data cycles. You modify your approach in real time based on current performance data.Reading Teacher Key ResponsibilitiesAdvance early elementary students to grade-level reading proficiency through adaptive, AI-supported structured literacy instruction.Basic RequirementsBachelor's degree (any discipline) Master's degree in reading instruction OR structured literacy certification (Orton-Gillingham, Wilson Reading System, IMSE, CERI, LETRS, Neuhaus, UFLI, or equivalent)2+ years of full-time K-2 structured reading instruction in a school or clinical environment within the past 5 years, utilizing systematic phonics or structured literacy approachesCapacity to independently design reading lessons and articulate your instructional content and methodology without dependence on published programsAvailability to work on-site at an Alpha campus (Lake Forest CA, Palo Alto CA, Piedmont CA, San Francisco CA, Santa Monica CA, Greenwich CT, Chicago IL, Boston MA, New York City NY, or Chantilly VA; relocation assistance provided)Commitment to daily use of AI and adaptive learning platforms and flexibility to adapt as technology evolvesLegal authorization to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorshipNice-to-have RequirementsFamiliarity with diagnostic reading assessments (e.g., DRA, DIBELS, AIMSweb) for establishing differentiated instructional groupsDocumented history of measurable student reading improvement you can articulate with specific metrics (e.g., advanced 12 students from Level C to Level G within one semester)Previous collaboration with edtech teams, product development teams, or instructional designers on tool creationExperience in a startup, micro-school, or alternative education setting where you developed systems rather than executed existing onesAbout AlphaWant to join a learning rebellion that’s transforming the traditional classroom?
