ABOUT THE COMPANY: Based in Southern San Joaquin Valley, J.G. Boswell Company, is engaged in the production, processing, and marketing of cotton, tomatoes, oil seeds, orchards, and cattle. Since its formation 1925, the company has been closely held and operated by the Boswell family. Throughout its history, J.G. Boswell Company has demonstrated the stewardship of all of the resources employed with sustainable best management practices. JOB SUMMARY: Supervise warehouse housekeeping, fumigation, quality control, and safety procedures for roughly 15 employees throughout the seed department. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES: · Unlock the doors at the facilities in use, turn on the lights, and air compressors. · Verify that all employees have arrived at work. · Conduct safety tailgates for all employees as needed. · Meet with the seed department production supervisor to check current warehouse requirements. · Check personnel requirements in various areas and ensure that adequate help is available. If adequate personnel are not available, the warehouse supervisor will assist or contact the other supervisors for help. · Drive around all warehouses and look for debris, weeds, insects, rodents, damage and graffiti. · Arrange to correct problems found through daily inspections. · Perform routine inspections of equipment (including fire extinguishers) and notify the maintenance supervisor of any repairs or service required. · Work with the other supervisors to ensure a smooth operations process as well as safety awareness for employees by communicating safety issues and concerns. · Enter employee time as needed, review, and approve timecards in ADP Workforce for all supervised employees. · Inspect warehouses for housekeeping and pest control each afternoon. · The warehouse supervisor will complete the pest control corrective action report and turn it into the seed department production supervisor with recommendations. - Weekly Pest Control Inspection Sheet - Pest Control Corrective Action - Warehouse Monthly Inspection · Perform pesticide training for all employees as needed. · Complete the safety meeting training record and file in the Intelex system. · Notify the Kings County Agriculture Commissioner office of NOI’s “Notice of Intent” as needed. · Review and distribute safety data sheets on new products before they are introduced into the workplace. · Provide employee performance feedback to production supervisor and manager. · Issue disciplinary action as needed, following the J.G. Boswell company guidelines. · Be available to act as a vacation or emergency backup for other supervisors. · When an emergency response group has been called follow the directions detailed in the Seed Department Emergency Action Plan. · Fumigate products stored in packaging facilities as needed while following the documented company fumigation procedures and product label. · Oversee all insecticide applications for all warehouses (training, labels, PPE etc.) · Oversee the quality control of individual commodities for lab and customer needs. · Oversee cotton harvest QC team. Work closely with customers to meet customer needs (cotton module probing, reporting, gin inspections, etc.) · Oversee sample station (oversee all activities of sample stand, trait testing, and equipment usage.) · All other duties assigned by production supervisor and/or department manager. QUALIFICATIONS: · Must be able to read, write, and speak in English; knowledge of Spanish is desired. · Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, government regulations, pesticide labels, and operating manuals. · Must be able to take verbal and written directions from managers and effectively communicate in return. · Must be able to deliver effective verbal and written directions to subordinates. · Must be able to present and deliver effective information and training sessions to groups of people. · Must be able to work extensive hours, including weekend shifts, night shifts, as needed. · Ability to utilize and work with basic computer functions and software including Microsoft Office, Oracle, Discover, and ADP timekeeping. · Must be able to work as a team or independently. · Work well with others including managers, coworkers, and subordinates. · Must be observant, organized, and detail oriented. · Function well in a fast-paced environment. · Desire and ability to learn. · Punctuality/reliability. LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: Must maintain a valid California Driver’s License and J.G. Boswell Company Forklift License. Must obtain and maintain a Qualified Applicators Certificate or License. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: · High School Diploma or equivalent preferred. · 2-3 years of supervisory experience preferred · 2-3 years of experience in warehouse environment preferred · Bilingual preferred WORK ENVIRONMENT: · While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals. · The noise level in the work environment can be medium to loud. · The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, as well as cold and warm weather.
