Construction Estimator

Barton Malow is currently seeking an Estimator to join our Industrial Group based in the Southfield, Michigan office. This individual will prepare estimates and lead preconstruction teams for project pursuits, using hard-bid, design-build and conceptual estimating methods for small to large scale projects in the Energy, Automotive, Manufacturing and Industrial markets.Principal Duties & Responsibilities (*Essential Functions):Prepare estimates for variety of contract types including lump sum, CM, design build, EPCInteract and effectively communicate with clients and team membersPerform and/or lead others to complete typical estimating facets such as:Detailed quantity take-offs and organizing the quantities with unit pricing in production of an estimateSolicit bids and quotes from subcontractors and suppliers Communicate effectively with subcontractors and suppliers to clarify pricing informationPrepare estimate formats in such areas as general conditions, general bidding, quantity takeoffs, and bid analysisWrite detailed scopes of work for construction contracts to be implemented by Project DeliveryWork with Project Delivery in the Procurement of trade workPrepare outline schedules for proposed projectsAssist staff members with various special projects related to overall preconstruction and estimating effortsMentor and assist in the development of less experienced personnelDevelop estimates utilizing Excel and WinEst Job Specifications (*Essential Requirements):Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent professional experience3+ years’ experience in construction estimating with a Construction Management or General Contracting firmMarket experience preferred in, but not all required, automotive, power & energy, light and heavy industrialExperience in developing competitive design build and hard bidExperience in effectively leading preconstruction teams to win workExperience in developing and implementing value engineering solutions to drive down project costs for the Owner while maintaining a high level of construction qualityWorking knowledge of trades: scope, time frames, field execution and potential risks/exposuresDemonstrate understanding and knowledge about estimating processes and delivery methodsBarton Malow is an equal opportunity employer, and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, disability status, genetic information, protected veteran status, or any other legally protected characteristic.
