If you believe in the transformative power of creativity and community, we want to hear from you!Responsibilities of Kuumba Academy Teachers Include but Are Not Limited to:Academic Achievement and Character DevelopmentCreate a vibrant, inclusive, and achievement-oriented art classroom for students in grades K-8Develop and implement standards-aligned art lessons that build students' technical skills, creativity, and appreciation for diverse artistic traditionsIntegrate the arts with core academic subjects through interdisciplinary, project-based learningUse visual arts to promote student voice, identity development, and cultural expressionCollaborate with grade-level teams to support arts-integrated instructional unitsShowcase student work throughout the building and lead school-wide exhibitions and performancesUtilize student data and observations to tailor instruction to individual and group needsProvide differentiated instruction to ensure all students are challenged and supported in their artistic growthFoster a love for the arts while building a safe and respectful studio cultureArt teacher will be evaluated using DTGSSProfessional Growth and DevelopmentCollaborate with instructional coaches, grade level chairs, and school team to continuously improve instructional, culture-building, and leadership skillsParticipate enthusiastically in all professional development, team planning, and data analysis meetingsFunction as a school-wide partner in helping to raise student achievement and character for all students in the school reinforcing school-wide expectations and volunteering to take on additional activities as needed to improve school cultureSkills and CharacteristicsStrong classroom management and student engagement skills across K-8 age groupsDeep knowledge of visual art techniques, materials, and culturally diverse art historyAbility to create developmentally appropriate art experiences for students at all grade levelsHighly organized with strong planning and time management abilitiesTeam-oriented, reflective, and open to feedbackBelief in Kuumba's mission and commitment to whole-child, culturally responsive educationEnthusiasm for interdisciplinary instruction and arts-integrationEducational Background and Requirements:Bachelor's degree in Music Education or a related fieldValid Delaware teaching certification in Art Education (required)Two years of successful teaching experience preferred, particularly in urban or arts-focused settingsIf you are a dedicated educator with a passion for visual arts and a desire to inspire students through creativity, we encourage you to apply!
