Column Technical Services is seeking an accomplished Controller to join a long-standing, member-focused financial institution in Dubuque, Iowa. This role offers the opportunity to make a direct impact within a stable, community-oriented credit union that values integrity, collaboration, and service to its members.Primary Duties And ResponsibilitiesDirect and manage all accounting activities and financial workflowsProduce, review, and interpret periodic financial reports and statementsMaintain oversight of the general ledger, balance sheet accounts, and reconciliation processesGuide the annual budgeting cycle and ongoing financial projectionsEnsure adherence to all applicable regulatory and industry requirements for credit unions and financial institutionsTrack financial results and deliver meaningful analysis and recommendations to executive leadershipDevelop, enforce, and monitor internal control policies and proceduresProvide leadership, coaching, and performance management for the accounting staffServe as a key liaison with external auditors, examiners, and other financial partnersRequired Experience And QualificationsMinimum of 10+ years of progressive responsibility within accounting or finance functionsCurrently serving in a senior-level accounting role such as Controller, Assistant Controller, or another high-level accounting leadership positionDemonstrated expertise in: Financial statement preparation and reportingManaging and maintaining the general ledgerPerforming detailed account reconciliationsProven ability in financial planning activities, including budgeting, forecasting, and analytical reviewStrong understanding of compliance standards within banking or regulated financial environmentsEffective leadership capabilities with experience managing and developing teamsHigh-level proficiency with Microsoft Excel and financial modeling toolsHands-on experience working with accounting and financial management systemsPreferred Qualifications Education & CredentialsBachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (required)CPA or CMA designation preferredTechnical Expertise Extensive experience with:General ledger oversight and maintenanceDetailed balance sheet and account reconciliationPreparation and presentation of accurate financial statements and reportsFinancial Planning & AnalysisDemonstrated track record of success in: Developing and managing budgetsCreating forecasts and long-range financial projectionsConducting financial analysis to inform and support strategic business decisionsCompliance & Controls Strong working knowledge of:Regulatory requirements applicable to banking or financial institutionsInternal control frameworks and audit-related processesSystems & ToolsHands-on experience utilizing: Accounting platforms and ERP systemsAdvanced Microsoft Excel skills for reporting, modeling, and data analysisLeadership & Management Proven ability to:Lead, coach, and develop accounting professionalsEstablish accountability and drive high performance within a team environmentAnalytical & Professional SkillsHighly analytical approach with: Exceptional attention to detailStrong problem-solving abilitiesComfort operating in regulated, compliance-focused environmentsCommunication & CollaborationExcellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage with: Executive leadershipExternal auditorsInternal and external stakeholders
