Medical Assistant – Ophthalmology (Part-Time)Location: Madison, IN 47250Position OverviewThe Ophthalmic Medical Assistant plays a vital role in supporting physicians by collecting comprehensive clinical data and performing delegated ophthalmic testing. This position ensures patients receive accurate evaluations and compassionate care while maintaining efficient clinical workflow.Education & ExperienceHigh school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education preferredOne to two years of experience in ophthalmology or as a certified ophthalmic assistant preferredValid ophthalmic assistant certification preferredRequired Skills & CompetenciesProfessional verbal and written communication skillsPatient-focused mindset with empathy and discretionStrong organizational skills and attention to detailAbility to work collaboratively in a team-based environmentComfort with electronic medical records and clinical technologyKey ResponsibilitiesPatient Interaction & Clinical SupportOrients new patients to office protocols and clinical proceduresCollects and documents comprehensive patient histories, including ocular, medical, medication, allergy, and family historyPerforms accurate clinical measurements and documentation in a timely mannerSupports ophthalmic photography needs, including fundus, anterior segment, and external imagingPatient Flow & TriageDetermines testing order for patients in coordination with clinical prioritiesWorks closely with front desk staff to manage patient flowAdjusts testing sequences as needed to maintain efficiencyKeeps patients informed about next steps and providers they will seeEscorts patients throughout testing and clinical areasEquipment & Instrument CareTroubleshoots ophthalmic equipment and reports unresolved issues to managementConducts archiving per manufacturer guidelinesPerforms autoclaving and ensures ongoing instrument sterilityAdministrative & Operational DutiesSeeks guidance appropriately and practices within scope of trainingMaintains cleanliness and organization of exam and procedure roomsMonitors and replenishes exam room suppliesCompletes additional tasks as assigned to support clinic operationsPhysical Requirements & Work SettingThis role functions in a professional medical office environment.
