As a frontend web developer on our team, you will enable our Creative Studio designers to realize their visions for our collaborations and launches, work with our E-Commerce team to make updating our site a breeze, and collaborate with the other engineers and freelancers who make BAGGU a presence on the web.In this role you will work with our Creative Studio designers, advising them on their designs and what is possible on the web - then turning those visions and possibilities into reality for our collaborations and seasonal launches. You’ll also work with our E-Commerce team to improve their workflow, making updating our site a breeze. Additionally, you’ll join our other engineers in triaging bugs, improving our backend systems, and building new features to support our customers and coworkers from marketing to customer experience.The ideal candidate for this role has experience building and maintaining visually appealing and intuitively usable websites. You will work closely with other engineers on a daily basis, but should also be comfortable communicating technical limitations and alternative solutions to non-engineers.Early career engineers are encouraged to apply for this role - you’ll be joining two experienced developers, who are happy to introduce you to our technology stack and support you end-to-end as you take on creative projects and turn them into reality.Location and Working HoursMust be able to work PST hoursRemote, limited to candidates in the following states: CA, OR, NM, PA, IL, NJ, MI, NY, VA, WA.Ability to travel to BAGGU’s San Francisco office quarterly.ResponsibilitiesFeature development: Build and maintain responsive, accessible, reusable web components for the BAGGU web stores, ensuring that the components match the Creative team’s designs and support the E-Commerce team’s workflows.Documentation, education, and communication: Communicate limitations, alternatives, and workarounds of our codebase and of the web generally to non-engineers on our Creative and E-Commerce teams, to collaboratively represent our brand on the web in the best light. Document usage of components for non-technical users to build a shared understanding of what content editor changes our website supports and can support in the future.Quality control and continuous improvement: In collaboration with other BAGGU engineers, triage and resolve daily bug reports, gradually making larger fixes while contributing meaningful improvements to the codebase. Maintain and update vendor integrations for the libraries and services that power our website. Take on new projects, refactoring, extending, and improving our codebase to make our web development more robust, efficient, and scalable.Requirements1+ years of experience in frontend web development, preferably in e-commerce.Proficiency with development tools and platforms such as GitHub, npm, and node.js.Strong researching skills and an ability to problem solve - the self-led ability to identify opportunities in a codebase and implement new solutions.Experience working with existing codebases and other developers, whether open source or commercial - self-driven ability to explore a codebase and identify or debug existing code paths.Good, proactive communication skills - regularly communicating with colleagues about project status, blocking issues, or open questions.Comfort with technical and non-technical audiences - being able to communicate in a technically detailed way when needed but also able to communicate project limitations and updates to non-technical users.Exceptional attention to detail - must be able to see projects through to completion, ensuring accurate implementation of visual details such as spacing, padding, and alignment, performing quality checks throughout development until a project is complete.Desire to learn - as we modernize our codebase, candidates should be comfortable learning new platforms, flexible as tools change, and able to take initiative in suggesting new directions for our code.Able to work independently and collaboratively - This is especially important as we are a remote organization! Candidates should be skilled in managing their time as well as balancing synchronous and asynchronous communication. Knowing when to ask for help is a strength!Nice to HavesTechnical familiarity with libraries, frameworks, and tools.
