Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) Field Solutions Engineer

The Weitz Company is hiring a VDC Field Solutions Engineer I to support our Operations Services Unit out of Des Moines, IA.The VDC Field Solutions I role supports project teams and VDC staff by deploying, operating, and maintaining field technology tools and digital workflows. This position helps bridge the gap between jobsite needs and VDC capabilities, ensuring accurate field data, improved coordination, and consistent use of technology across projects. The role involves hands‐on work in the field, frequent collaboration with project teams, and significant travel.The Weitz Company has been Building a Better Way Since 1855. We believe our employees to be our most valuable asset, and we are committed to growing a diverse and inclusive culture that inspires, motivates, and continuously improves.What You'll Do:Support VDC and project teams with field technology and digital workflowsHelp connect jobsite needs with VDC tools, processes, and capabilitiesDeploy, operate, and support field technology, including:Reality capture tools (LiDAR scanning, 360° photography)Drone data collection and platform support (as applicable and under supervision)Robotic layout tools and other emerging field technologiesProcess, organize, and manage field‐collected data such as scans, photos, and modelsHelp maintain a reliable single source of truth for field and as‐built informationParticipate in project‐specific safety processes and support the use of technology that enhances jobsite safetyAssist project teams with:Site logistics visualsModel‐based coordination supportVerification of existing and installed conditionsWork closely with VDC Engineers and Managers to:Identify field challenges that could benefit from technologyImplement repeatable, scalable solutions across projectsSupport equipment management, including:Preparing, shipping, and receiving field technology kitsBasic troubleshooting and coordination with IT/VDC leadershipContribute to training and documentation efforts, including:Creating field guides, checklists, and best practicesAssisting with internal training sessions and onboardingProvide remote and in‐person support for field technology deploymentsMaintain strong communication with project teams and be comfortable working on active jobsitesOther responsibilities as assignedWhat We're Looking For:Experience:2-5 years in construction technologyVDC, surveying, reality capture, or related field experience preferredEducation:Construction or VDC Industry-related bachelor's degree preferredequivalent combination of education and experience may be consideredCertifications:OSHA 30 preferredFAA Part 107 preferred prior to hirerequired for any UAS operationssupport provided to obtain after start* Experience working on data center projects highly desired* Electrical background requiredSkills:Ability to read/interpret construction documentsKnowledge of construction methods and materialsExcellent project organizational skillsImpressive leadership skills with the desire to teach, mentor, and develop a teamBusiness acumen and relationship building skillsExcellent verbal and written communication across all levels of the organizationBilingual in English and Spanish is a plusTechnology:Proficiency with Microsoft Officeability to learn discipline-specific software and field data platformsExposure and/or basic familiarity with reality capture platformsProject management and VDC software preferrede.g. Procore, Bluebeam Revu, Autodesk Suite including Revit, Navisworks, Civil3D, AutoCAD; Revizto, Adobe Creative CloudWhat We Offer:Competitive PayComprehensive Benefits Package with Tax-Advantaged HSA and FSA offeringsEmployer-Paid Short- and Long-Term Disability ProgramsEmployer-Paid Life InsuranceGenerous Paid Time Off Provisions401K Retirement Savings Plan with Company MatchTuition ReimbursementFully Paid Parental LeaveVoluntary Products Including: Critical Illness Insurance and Accident InsuranceCorporate Wellness Program with Wellness Time Off and RewardsVisa sponsorship is not available for this position at this time.The Company does not accept unsolicited resumes from search firms or agencies.
