Senior Controls Installation Technician

About the RoleFES is seeking a Senior Controls Installation Technician with advanced field installation experience in Building Automation Systems (BAS). This position requires strong technical ability, leadership on active construction sites, and a commitment to quality workmanship and safety.As a senior member of the team, you’ll oversee field installation, mentor junior technicians, and ensure that projects are delivered efficiently, safely, and in alignment with engineering and project specifications. Key ResponsibilitiesProvide leadership and direction to FES installation teams and subcontractors in the field.Collaborate with the Engineering Department, providing feedback on control design and installation feasibility.Participate in the project preplanning and coordination process, ensuring alignment with other trades.Lead the installation and execution of assigned BAS projects from start to finish.Install and route conduit, cable, and control wiring in accordance with industry standards and local codes.Mount and terminate controllers, sensors, actuators, and other field devices.Troubleshoot and verify field wiring, terminations, and device functionality using test instruments.Identify and escalate field issues or customer concerns to ensure timely resolution.Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient work environment on all job sites.Mentor and train junior-level technicians, supporting their growth and technical development.Work day or night shifts as required by project schedules, including some exposure to outdoor environments and open construction areas. QualificationsMinimum of 3+ years of experience installing Building Automation and DDC control systems.Strong understanding of mechanical systems, control wiring, and low-voltage electrical practices.Ability to read and interpret mechanical and control drawings accurately.Proven track record of team leadership and field coordination.Familiarity with conduit bending, cable routing, device mounting, and termination standards.Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills using electrical test equipment.Effective communication and collaboration with project managers, engineers, and other trades.OSHA safety awareness and commitment to maintaining safe job sites. Preferred ExperienceExperience with leading BAS platforms such as Schneider Electric, Delta Controls, or Niagara-based systems.Previous experience working on healthcare, government, or institutional projects.Basic networking knowledge (IP addressing, controller connectivity) is a plus.Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop junior installers. Compensation & BenefitsCompetitive salary commensurate with experience.Health & Dental Insurance – CareFirst Blue Advantage (FES contributes 50%; individual or family plan).401(k) with company match up to 4% after 6 months.Vision Insurance – employee paid.Short- & Long-Term Disability Insurance – employee paid.Paid Time Off (PTO) and paid holidays (New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas). Why Join FESWork with a tight-knit, highly skilled team that values technical excellence and integrity.Exposure to major healthcare, government, and institutional projects.Competitive compensation, professional development opportunities, and a company culture that rewards initiative and leadership.
