These internships provide hands-on experience working with cutting-edge silicon photonics technology in a fast‑paced startup environment.This is a paid internship expected from June 2026 through August 2026.Please submit your resume and indicate which internship position(s) you are applying for.Compensation: $35 - $50/hrAvailable Internship PositionsCandidates should indicate their preferred internship(s) when applying.1) Photonics Device Modeling InternLocation: Hybrid – Santa Clara, CA or Goleta, CAResponsibilities:Assist with implementation and quality assurance of photonic device modeling tools and workflowsDevelop and optimize design models for photonic devices and integrated circuitsRun simulations and analyze data to support device performance and design validationCollaborate with photonics and process engineering teamsPreferred Qualifications:Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Photonics, or a related fieldExperience with photonics simulation toolsStrong analytical and problem-solving skills2) Reliability Engineering InternLocation: On-Site - Santa Clara, CAResponsibilities:Assist conducting reliability testingAnalyze reliability data and assist in reporting performance trendsHelp develop reliability test plans for photonic componentsCollaborate with device, process, and test engineering teamsPreferred Qualifications:Pursuing a degree in Materials Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related disciplineFamiliarity with semiconductor reliability testing concepts is helpfulStrong data analysis and documentation skills3) PIC (Photonic Integrated Circuit) Engineering InternLocation: On-Site - Santa Clara, CA or Goleta, CAResponsibilities:Support the design, layout, and verification of photonic integrated circuitsAssist with simulation, characterization, and optimization of PIC componentsWork closely with cross‑functional design and fabrication teamsDocument design results and participate in design reviewsPreferred Qualifications:Enrolled in a degree program in Electrical Engineering, Applied Material Science, Applied Physics, or a related fieldInterest in silicon photonics or integrated circuit designStrong problem-solving, communication, organizational, interpersonal and presentation skills.4) Photonics Test Engineering InternLocation: Onsite - Santa Clara, CA or Goleta, CAResponsibilities:Build and modify system level photonic test stations including PIC evaluation boards, optical spectrumanalyzers, oscilloscopes, and other high-end test equipmentWrite Python code to execute and automate test programsCollect and analyze data, create test reports, and provide clear conclusionsPreferred Qualifications:Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Photonics, or related fieldBasic software coding experience, ideally in pythonBasic experience operating lab equipmentSelf-starting and independent but able to collaborate with team memberGeneral Internship RequirementsCurrently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate engineering or science programAbility to work in a collaborative, fast‑moving R&D environmentStrong communication and documentation skillsAvailability to work onsite as required by the roleWhy OpenLight Photonics?Be part of a cutting-edge startup with a strong history of technology innovation.
