Embedded Software Engineer

Company Description EEL Drone develops autonomous underwater monitoring technology for long-duration, energy-efficient data collection in marine environments. The team actively collaborates with operators, developers, regulators, and researchers to align the technology with real-world needs and pilot deployment opportunities.Role Description The Embedded Software Engineer will design, implement, and maintain autonomy software stack for an autonomous underwater systems. Day-to-day responsibilities include developing firmware and control software, integrating sensors and communication interfaces, and optimizing software for reliability, energy efficiency, and real-time performance. The engineer will debug and troubleshoot system-level issues, contribute to software architecture decisions, and collaborate closely with mechanical, electrical, and marine engineering teams to ensure robust operation in challenging ocean environments. The role also involves participation in test planning, field trials, and iterative improvements based on data collected from deployments.QualificationsStrong skills in Embedded Software Programming and Embedded Software development for autonomous underwater system.Experience with general Software Development practices, including version control, testing, and documentation.Proficiency in Debugging embedded systems, including use of hardware debuggers, diagnostic tools, and log analysis.Ability to contribute to robust Software Design, including modular architectures, interfaces, and system integration.Proficiency in C/C++ or similar languages commonly used in embedded environments.Experience working with microcontrollers, embedded operating systems, and communication protocols (e.g., UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet).Familiarity with robotics, control systems, or autonomous vehicles; experience with marine or underwater systems is a plus.Bachelor, Master, or Doctoral degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.Ability to work on-site in Los Angeles, CA, collaborate in a multidisciplinary team, and participate in hands-on lab and field testing.
