San Lorenzo UnifiedBrief Description of Position It shall be the responsibility of the Coordinator of Special Education, under the direction of the Director of Special Services, to coordinate and supervise programs of Special Education, to recommend the development and/or expansion of services and programs as needed, to provide assistance and support to teachers and to assist Special Education pupils and parents in such a manner as to assure that pupils have a full and appropriate educational opportunity. Major Duties and ResponsibilitiesRecommends and assists in implementation of policies on all aspects of Special Education.Consults with school site administrators on the implementation of Special Education programs and service.Observes, consults with and assists Special Day Class Teachers, Resource Specialists and Designated Instructional and Service Personnel.Participates in the development and review of Individualized Education Programs.Participates in research activities related to Special Education, collects and analyzes data and prepares summative reports.Serves as a liaison between the schools and other agencies as directed.Assists in the recruitment and selection of Special Education certificated and classified personnel.Recommends and implements professional development for all staff related to special education.Develops and implements procedures for eligibility and exit of pupils from the Special Education program.Participates in consultation with district personnel.Evaluates certificated and classified staff.Coordinates Mental Health referrals and placements.Participates in district-level committees and task forces.Oversees special education compliance implementation and corrections.Coordinates Special Education Extended School Year.Performs other duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications Knowledge of:Personnel practices.District operations.Identification, placement and instruction of Special Education students.Special Education ComplianceAbility to:Work and communicate effectively with individuals and groups.Demonstrate organizational and administrative ability in previous work assignment.Demonstrate skill in providing support and assistance to staff, students and parents.Understand growth and development and problems associated with students identified with special education needs.Demonstrate initiative performing tasks in addition to those specified in job description.Demonstrate knowledge of Federal and State laws associated with Special Education.Have demonstrated competence in administering policies and practices where appropriate.Ability to prepare for and represent the District in Special Education Mediations and Hearings.Experience Minimum of three years experience as a Special Education teacher; or three years experience as a school psychologist; or three years experience as a district office or Building administrator, having responsibility for working with students with special instructional needs. Administrative or Supervisory Credential.
