R&D Shop Technician

Backyard Discovery's R&D Department in Pittsburg, Kansas is searching for a full-time Shop Technician. This position is responsible for cutting, drilling, routing and assembling projects utilizing basic carpentry skills, and also have the ability to read engineering drawings. Hours of work are typically Monday through Thursday, 6 am to 4 pm.Required functions, qualifications, and preferred skills, competencies and experience are as follows:ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Assemble projects in a safe and orderly mannerUse the following tools safely and efficiently: table saws, band saws, compound miter-box saws, various shapers, hand held and table routers, drill press and various other wood working tools and equipmentAbility to build prototypes from Industrial Design renderings and pictures; scaling, interpreting, and solving for the end productResponsible for reading, measuring, cutting material to size from engineering drawingsAbility to lift boxes weighing over 50 pounds repeatedly throughout a 10 hour work periodAbility to carry and lift boxes while reaching, bending, climbing, walking/standing to move product through the plantOTHER RESPONSIBILITIES AS REQUESTED:Ability to read engineering drawings with little to no helpAbility to use power tools in a safe manner without assistanceHave carpentry skillsAbility to work in a high-speed collaborative environment (team-oriented, deadline driven, high performance and fast-paced)Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out every day work responsibilities and assigned workWill be open to occasional travel if neededPerform other duties as assigned and/or job-related dutiesApplicants will be required to successfully complete pre-employment background check and drug screen.
