Job Title: Test EngineerLocation: Round Lake ILContract: 6 months contractJob DescriptionJob Title: Contract Test Engineer – Interoperability Testing (Medical Devices)Position Summary:The Contract Test Engineer is responsible for executing interoperability test cases for medical device systems, with a focus on validating data exchange, integration workflows, and conformance to healthcare interoperability standards. This role emphasizes hands-on test execution, defect identification, and accurate reporting within a regulated environment.Responsibilities:Test Execution & SupportExecute predefined interoperability test cases across medical device systems, interfaces, and integration platforms.Validate data exchange workflows (device-to-system and system-to-system) for accuracy, completeness, and reliability.Record test results, capture logs, and document defects with clear reproducibility steps.Perform functional, integration, regression, and end-to-end interoperability testing.Interoperability ValidationConduct testing aligned with healthcare interoperability standards including HL7, FHIR, DICOM, and IHE profiles.Validate message structures, data mapping, and end-to-end transaction workflows.Verify system behavior under normal and exception scenarios such as malformed messages, dropped connections, and network interruptions.Support connectivity and communication validation between medical devices and enterprise systems.Defect Tracking & AnalysisIdentify, isolate, troubleshoot, and document defects related to interoperability, data integrity, and system integration.Support root cause analysis activities by providing detailed logs, screenshots, traces, and test evidence.Re-test resolved defects and participate in regression testing cycles to ensure issue closure.Test Environment & Data ManagementConfigure and utilize test tools, simulators, mock systems, and integration environments to emulate interoperability scenarios.Assist in maintaining test environments, connectivity configurations, and test datasets.Coordinate with development and system teams to ensure environment readiness and issue resolution.Documentation & ReportingMaintain accurate, complete, and traceable test execution records within ALM/test management systems.Provide regular status updates on test execution progress, risks, blockers, and defect trends.Ensure documentation complies with regulatory and audit requirements within a medical device environment.Required Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems, or related technical field.3+ years of experience in software testing, system integration testing, or interoperability testing.Hands-on experience with healthcare interoperability standards such as HL7, FHIR, DICOM, and IHE.Experience with defect tracking and test management tools (e.g., JIRA, ALM, Azure DevOps).Familiarity with log analysis, interface validation, and troubleshooting integration issues.Understanding of SDLC, STLC, and regulated environments such as FDA or ISO-compliant medical device development.Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills.Preferred Qualifications:Experience testing connected medical devices or healthcare systems.Knowledge of networking concepts, APIs, REST services, and interface engines.Exposure to automation or scripting tools for test support.Experience working in Agile or hybrid development environments.
