From structural steel to concrete and beyond, you'll be the trusted expert in the field, helping projects stay compliant, on track, and built to last. This is a hands-on, field-driven role ideal for someone who enjoys problem-solving, working outdoors, and being directly involved in the construction process from start to finish.ResponsibilitiesWhat You'll DoPerform field inspections and testing on active construction projects, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project specifications Inspect structural steel (CWI), reinforcing steel, concrete, masonry, fireproofing, and other building materials Read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and specifications to verify work is completed correctly Identify issues in real time and collaborate with contractors, project managers, and clients to resolve them Document inspection results through detailed daily reports, including photos and field observations Communicate clearly and professionally with project teams both in the field and electronically Utilize technology, reporting systems, and inspection tools to track and submit findings Maintain a strong commitment to safety by following all company and site-specific protocols Support multiple projects and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment What Makes This Role Stand OutHigh-impact work your inspections directly influence the safety and success of major construction projects Variety in your day no two job sites are the same Career growth opportunities to expand certifications (ACI, ICC, etc.) and advance within UES Field-focused perfect for someone who prefers being out on-site vs. behind a desk Team collaboration work alongside experienced engineers, inspectors, and project teams What We're Looking ForCurrent CWI OR at least structural steel review experience Experience performing special inspections in construction environments Strong understanding of building codes, materials testing, and inspection procedures Ability to read and interpret construction documents and specifications Comfortable using technology for reporting, documentation, and communication Strong attention to detail and ability to make sound field decisions Valid driver's license and ability to travel to job sites as needed QualificationsHigh School diploma or equivalent Must be at least 18 years old for entry onto job sites Valid Driver's License with acceptable driving record Experience of 2+ years in field and/or inspections Preferred: AAS or BS in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology or related degree Strong knowledge of relevant DOT material specifications and testing procedures Required Certifications: Active ICC Certifications: Masonry, Soils, Spray-Applied Fireproofing, Post-Tension, Concrete, etc. or EI (Engineer-In-Training) licensure Active CWI certification Ability to pass a background check screening Ability to read and interpret construction documents Ability to calculate results from construction inspections Ability to accurately perform field testing documentation and detailed figures Ability to read and interpret construction documents and technical specifications Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations, to customers, clients, construction teams, and other employees of the organization Strong written and verbal communication and ability to use technology/computer Preferred QualificationsPreferred Certifications: Radiation Safety, DOT Roadway, Earthworks certification Additional applicable industry certifications Travel Requirements• This position requires extensive travel, approximately up to 70% of the time, in support of business objectives and client engagements. Travel may be both scheduled and on short notice, depending on project needs. Destinations typically include job sites, field locations, or regional offices, where work may be conducted in outdoor or operational environments. Adherence to all company safety protocols and use of PPE is required during travel and on-site work.Physical Demands & Work EnvironmentWork normally performed outside includes exposure to weather conditions such as precipitation, extreme cold or heat, dusty and noisy work environments. The physical requirements for this position may include and are not limited to: Ability to lift and/or carry up to 40 lbs Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time as well as drive long distances Frequent use of fingers, hands and arms for typing, cellphone Ability to bend, twist, reach, stoop, pull, kneel, lift, carry, and push repetitively Ability to speak and hear effectively to communicate sometimes with noisy environments Ability to see, smell, hear and touch as well as reach, climb or balance, crouch, stoop, crawl, kneel and sit Ability to regularly lift and/or move/shake up to 40lbs. (soil and/or concrete tests and related apparatus); frequently lift and/or move up to 60lbs. (soil and sand samples, and nuclear density equipment); and occasionally move more than 100lbs.
