Associate Director, Institute on Public Safety and Social Justice
Under the general guidance of the Executive Director, Institute on Public Safety and Social Justice (IPSSJ) the Associate Director is responsible for providing a broad range of support and supervision to Institute on Public Safety and Social Justice (IPSSJ). Including oversight of, financial and programmatic compliance, staff resources as well as research assistance. The associate director will also be principally responsible for sourcing, funding and managing reporting of funds. Education/Experience:Masters degree required. Ph.D preferred in social science field.At least 7 years experience working at a non-profit institution and at least three of the seven years in administration (including grants administration).Extensive knowledge of finance management in higher education preferredRestorative justice training preferred.Knowledge, Skills, AbilitiesExcellent interpersonal communication and customer service skills.Proactive and independent with ability to take initiative.Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.Effective time management skills with ability to meet competing deadlines.Understanding of human resources principles, best practices, procedures, and relevant laws and regulations.Strong critical thinking and problem-solving acumen.Proficient with a variety of technology platforms, and MS Office (Work, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Ability to maintain confidentiality and to handle sensitive information.Demonstrated understanding of carceral systems, including their structure, impact on individuals and communities, and implications for clinical, educational, or organizational practiceEssential Duties & Responsibilities:Strategic Leadership and Program Development (30%)Assist in developing and implementing plans and goals for the departmentDevelop and manage new and existing projectsTrack project performance, specifically to analyze the successful completion of goalsDevelop strategic programming and opportunitiesOversees and reports weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual metricsFundraising (30%)Oversee grant funding efforts including research, proposal writing, and reporting requirementsOversee fundraising database and tracking systemsSupervise and collaborate with other fundraising staffEnsure timely and accurate report deliveries to fundersFinancial Management (20%)Assist in budgeting and monitoring expensesMeet project budgetary objectives and make adjustments to project constraints based on financial analysisMeet departmental financial objectives by forecasting requirements, preparing annual budgets, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective actionsIdentifying and developing new opportunities with the Executive Director, team members and other community stakeholders.Manage staff levels, wages, hours, and contract labor to revenueAdministration and Operations (15%)Works with the Executive Director to coordinate and supervise daily operationsEnsure compliance with regulations and internal policiesUndertake staffing responsibilities (hiring, trainings, evaluating, etc.)Collaborates with other back-office team members to ensure seamless business executionWorks closely with management team to ensure all operational, administrative, and compliance functions within the department are properly executed.Additional Duties as Assigned (5%)Work Environment (Physical Demands):The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 80% sitting, 10% walking, and 10% standing.
