Assistant Professor of Aviation (Tenure-Track)

Texas Southern University invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Aviation within the College of Science, Engineering & Technology (COSET).The successful candidate will support the continued growth of the TSU Aviation Program, which operates within an FAA Part 141 training environment and prepares students for careers in professional aviation, airline operations, aviation management, and related aviation fields.The faculty member will teach undergraduate aviation courses, mentor students, support industry partnerships, and contribute to the program's mission of producing highly skilled aviation professionals prepared for leadership in the aviation industry.Essential Duties SummaryThe successful candidate must be capable of teaching courses in one or more of the following aviation areas:Aviation Safety and Safety Management Systems (SMS)Aviation Accident InvestigationAirport Operations and ManagementAerodynamics and Aircraft PerformanceCrew Resource ManagementAirline and Aviation ManagementAviation WeatherAviation Regulations and ComplianceFaculty are expected to utilize modern instructional technology, simulation platforms, and aviation training tools to enhance classroom instruction and support experiential learning.The teaching load is typically 24 credit hours per academic year (fall and spring semesters), with the possibility of reassignment for research, program development, or administrative duties.% FTE1.0Hiring Range $80,000.40-$108,001.00 EducationRequired:Terminal degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in Aviation, Aviation Management, or a closely related field(ABD candidates may be considered if the terminal degree is completed prior to the start date.)Required Licensing/CertificationPreferred:* FAA Advanced Ground Instructor (AGI) certification* FAA Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) certificationKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesThe faculty member will:Advise and mentor aviation studentsSupport student organizations such as Alpha Eta Rho, National Intercollegiate Flying Association (NIF A), or other aviation organizationsParticipate in aviation program outreach and recruitment initiativesSupport aviation industry partnerships and internship opportunities for studentsContribute to maintaining program standards associated with FAA Part 141 operations and AABI accreditationAbility to effectively teach undergraduate aviation coursesStrong written and oral communication skillsCommitment to student mentorship and academic successAbility to work collaboratively within a faculty environmentResearch and Service ExpectationsFaculty members are expected to engage in scholarly activities consistent with university promotion and tenure expectations, including:Aviation safety researchAviation operations and management studiesHuman factors and aviation training methodologiesEmerging aviation technologiesFaculty will also participate in:Departmental, college, and university committeesProfessional aviation organizations and conferencesCommunity and industry engagement activitiesWork ExperienceRequired:* Demonstrated experience in the aviation industryPreferred:Experience working within an FAA Part 141 training programExperience with flight simulation training systemsExperience with Safety Management Systems (SMS) or aviation safety programsIndustry experience with airlines, aviation operations, airport management, or flight trainingWorking/Environmental ConditionsParticipate in faculty governance and committee serviceContribute to aviation program development initiativesAssist in maintaining relationships with airline partners and aviation stakeholdersSupport aviation program accreditation and assessment processesDesired start date Position End Date (if temporary)
